Blackhawks defend home ice for 3-2 Stanley Cup lead

Patrick Kane scored twice and Corey Crawford responded from a horrific Game IV outing with 24 saves as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated Boston 3-1 Saturday night to climb to within one game of their second Stanley Cup title in four years. Kane, who led the Blackhawks to their first title in 49 years when Chicago won the Cup in 2010, has seven goals in his last seven games. The Hawks can clinch Monday in Boston where the Bruins have opened as -130 favorites.

Authorites remove 15 bags of “evidence” after Hernandez house search

Police have searched the house of Patriot TE Aaron Hernandez for a second time and left with several bags of evidence. Detectives entered the house at 1:45 PM EST followed by two K-9 dogs. Hernandez has been the focal point of an ongoing homicide investigation involving a 27-year-old semi-pro football player who was reportedly dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend. Clippers zeroing in on Byron Scott

After talks with Doc Rivers broke down for a second time on Friday, the Scott camp. Talks have escalated to the point where financial terms have been discussed. Highly touted long time assistant Bryan Shaw is also reportedly still in the mix.

Scherzer just keeps bringing the heat, improves to 11-0

Max Scherzer gave up two first inning runs but led 4-2 after six outs thanks to a Victor Matinez grand slam as the Detroit Tigers hammered Boston 10-3. Scherzer improved to 11-0 to become the first pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1997 to open a season with 11 straight wins.

Broner wins split decision over Malignaggi for welterweight crown

Adrien Broner remained undefeated (27-0) and became a champion in three weight classes by pounding out a split decision win over Paulie Malignaggi and taking his welterweight title. Broner, who moved up in class from lightweight, connected on the sharper crisper punches to gain the win. One ringside judge had Malignaggi winning 115-113 while Broner was favored 115-113 by a second judge and 117-111 by a third. The Associated Press had Broner winning 117-111.

McMurray on the pole, Ambrose favored at Sonoma

Jamie McMurray is making a charge in the second half of the Sprint Cup season. After a run of recent strong finishes, McMurray won his first pole of 2013 by edging Marcos Amrose at Sonoma. McMurray also won the pole at Sonoma in 2007 buy has just one career top-ten finish here in 10 career starts. Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle complete the first two rows.

Jags come to terms with top draft pick Joeckel

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with their top draft pick and the No.2 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft ….. offensive tackle Luke Joeckel. The rookie salary cap calls for Joeckel to get a signing bonus of $13.799 million. Joeckel has moved over to right tackle for his rookie season with the Jaguars.
