Two third period goals in 17 seconds stuns Bruins as Hawks win Stanley Cup

With Boston leading 2-1 with less than 90 seconds to play, it looked like the Stanley Cup Finals were headed back to Chicago for a deciding Game Seven but ….. with their goaltender pulled, the Blackhawk’s Bryan Bickell scored on a snap shot at 18:44 and Dave Bolland netted the winner just 17 seconds later as Chicago beat Boston 3-2 to win their second Stanley Cup in four years. Milan Lucic snapped a 1-1 tie early in the third period for the Bruins before Chicago mounted it’s late game heroics.

Rays snap Jay 11-game win streak

Jeremy Hellickson threw seven innings of one-hit shutout ball and baseball’s latest phenom Will Myers homered for the second time in three MLB games as the Tampa Bay Rays beat Toronto 4-1 snapping the Jays 11-game win streak. The home run came in his first at bat at Tropicana Field. His first home run was a grand slam Saturday off C.C. Sabathia.

UCLA beats Miss State 3-1 in CWS opener

Mississippi State had a 20-1 edge in the stands but the UCLA had a 3-1 edge on the scoreboard as the Bruins drew first blood in the two-out-of-three college baseball World Series. Eric Filia drove in two runs with an RBI single and Dave Berg recorded his NCAA record 24th save in the win. The Bruins, who are one win away from their first baseball title, are doing it with pitching and defense allowing just four runs in four games while scoring just 11 runs themselves while hitting less than .200 in going 4-0.

Nuggets hire Shaw as new coach

Long-time Laker assistant Brian Shaw has been named as head coach of the Denver Nuggets. Shaw was a long-time assistant under Phil Jackson in Los Angeles and has been an assistant under Frank Vogel at Indiana since 2011. Another 50+ win team filled it’s coaching vacancy when the Memphis Grizzlies hired assistant Dave Joerger to replace Lionel Hollins who was not retained after the season.

Police drag creek close to Hernandez house

Police divers searched a creek near the home of New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez with metal detectors on Monday, hoping to find the murder weapon in the Odin Lloyd homocide case. Lloyd was found dead last Monday shot execution style in the back of the head after being last seen leaving a bar with Hernandez and three others Sunday night.
