BoSox advance to ALCS with 3-1 win over the Rays

The Red Sox have advanced to the American League Championship Series after beating Tampa Bay 3-1 on Tuesday. Boston won the game with small ball and hustle. Jake Peavy and four relievers stopped the Rays on six hits and Shane Victorino drove in the winning run by beating out an infield hit. Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson lasted jus one inning after giving up a hit and two walks. Boston will await the winner of tomorrow’s Oakland/Detroit Game Five winner.

NFL News and Notes

It’s been a tough 48 hours for the Atlanta Falcons. Monday, the dropped a 30-28 home decision to the New York Jets to fall to 1-4. Tuesday morning it was revealed that All-Pro wide out Julio Jones would likely miss the rest of the season with a foot injury. Tuesday night it was learned that second out WR Roddy White would miss one game and possibly more with hamstring problem.

Matt Schaub has thrown a pick six in an NFL record four straight games and the Texans fans are none too happy. First there was the Matt Schaub pizza ….. pick six toppings. Now fans are staking out his house to berate and harass his kids. NFL security and Houston police are investigating the matter.

Injury reports …..

New York Giant running back David Wilson will miss Big Blue’s Thursday night game vs the Bears. Wilson hurt his neck Sunday vs the Eagles and will sit out as a precautionary measure.

Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw will miss the rest of the season after undergoing neck surgery. The injury leaves the Colts with just Trent Richardson and Donald Brown as the only two backs on the roster.

Texan TE Owen Daniels will miss 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the fibula. Daniels has 34 catches on the year and is tied for the team lead with three touchdowns.

Reports have New England Patriot TE starting Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Gronk missed the first five games of the season recovering from back surgery and a broken forearm that had him missing much of 2012.

Spurrier: Clowney injury handled poorly by all sides

In an attempt to clear the air regarding the Jadeveon Clowney situation, Steve Spurrier said, “that the situation was handled poorly by all parties and that South Carolina would put the incident in the past.” Clowney was a a game time scratch Saturday in the Gamecocks win over Kentucky nursing sore ribs. Clowney didn’t practice Monday but is getting treatment twice a day and hopes to be back on the field as quickly as possible. If you are interested in how all went down, click here.

Hertl nets four as the Sharks drub Rangers

San Jose rookie Tomas Hertl scored four goals Tuesday night in the Shark’s 9-2 rout of the Rangers Tuesday night. Hertl’s third goal in the third period gave him five in his first three games, the first player since 1980 to do so. He tacked on a fourth goal just three minutes later.

Maia vs Shields highlights tonight’s UFC Fox card

Demian Maia and Jake Shields will meet at 170 pound in the main event of Fight Night 29 in Barueri, Brazil. Maia is a -300 favorite with Shields +230 on the take back.
