Saints players win appeal, could play Sunday

In a stunning turn of events, a three-man appeals panel has ruled in favor of the players and vacated the suspensions and vacated the suspensions to four Saints players handed down by Commissioner Roger Gooddell. For now …. Jonathan Vilma, Scott Fujita, Will Smith, unsigned free agent Anthony Hargrove are back in the NFL after the suspension were lifted on Friday,
the league reinstated them all a few minutes later. Vilma, Smith, and Fujita (who is now with the Cleveland Browns) could technically play on Sunday although none have practiced in the preseason.

This is a complicated question with lots left to be worked out including an NFL appeal and various salary cap questions regarding these players who would be eligible for Week 1 game checks, and, as vested veterans, those salaries become guaranteed for the season if they are on the roster at that time. Another question …. what happens to the suspended Saints coaching staff including head coach Sean Payton ???

Utah State in OT, full college slate today

The dog and under was the way to go in Friday night college football as Utah State snapped a 12-game losing streak to Utah winning 27-20 in overtime. Utah, who lost starting QB Jordan Wynn in the second quarter to an arm injury, trailed the entire game before getting the equalizer with 3:21 to play on a 24-yard pass to Kenneth Scott from Jonathon Hayes. The Aggies won in OT when Kerwynn Williams plunged in from the one and Utah was stopped when a touchdown was called back for offensive pass interference. It was Utah State’s first win over Utah since 1997 and first at Logan since 1996.
