Turnovers sink San Diego State

In a game that set offensive football back 50 years, BYU turned three San Diego State turnovers into 20 fourth quarter points in a 23-6 victory over the Aztecs in the Poinsettia Bowl. Kyle Van Noy recovered a fumble in the end zone and also returned an interception back 17 yards for a score. On the night, the three quarterbacks that saw action were a putrid 35-73 for 388 yards and six INTs with no touchdowns. San Diego State saw it’s seven-game win streak stop and also became this sixth team this year to not score an offensive touchdown against BYU. Favorite and under players cashed their tickets.

Ball State/UFC tonight in the Beef O’Brady Bowl

The fourth game of the 2012-2013 Bowl season will be played tonight as Ball State meets Central Florida in St Petersburg, Florida at the Beef O’Brady Bowl. UCF opened as an eight-point favorite but early Cardinal money has dropped it to a touchdown. The total is 62 across the board at this writing. Ball State has never won a Bowl going 0-5 lifetime. Their last Bowl was in 2008 when the Cards went 12-2. BSU has won six straight and is 4-1 as a dog this year. The Knights are 1-3 in Bowls beating Georgia 10-6 in their last Bowl two years ago. The game will played inside Tropicana field so weather will not be an issue.

Pierzynski agrees to a one-year deal with the Rangers

Catcher AJ Pierzynski has agreed to a one-year $7.5 million dollar deal with the Texas Rangers. Pierzynski, 35, hit .278/.326/.501 with 27 homers, 77 RBI and 68 runs last season in 135 games for the White Sox. The 27-homer season appears an outlier, however, as Pierzynski hit only 17 homers combined in 2010-11 and his previous career high in single-season home runs was 18, back in 2005.
