The NBA regular season ends tonight, Kobe needs 38 to win the scoring title
With all 16 playoff spots locked including the top seeds in both conferences, the final two nights of the NBA regular season have become somewhat anti-climatic with just some minor seeding, the scoring title, and Charlotte Bobcat futility yet to be determined.
Kobe Bryant needs 38 points in tonight’s Laker finale at Sacramento to win his third NBA scoring title and prevent Kevin Durant from winning his third straight scoring title. It is entirely possible that Mike Brown will rest all his starters other than Kobe Bryant.
The Charlotte Bobcats have lost 22 straight games and head into the final night of the NBA regular season with a 7-58 record good for a .108 winning percentage. If Charlotte losses tonight to the Knicks, the Bobcats would set the NBA record for lowest winning percentage for a season erasing the record of the 9-73 1972 Philadelphia 76ers. Joel Ward scored on a rebound at the 2:57 mark of overtime lifting the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory Boston, eliminating last year’s Stanley Cup Winners. Konerko hits career 400th career homer, Wright becomes Mets all-time RBI leader
Paul Konerko became just the fourth Chicago White Sox player to reach 400 home runs. Konerko’s blast sent the game to extra innings, eventual 5-4 14-inning loss at Oakland. David Wright hit a homer in the Mets 5-1 win over the Marlins as the 3rd baseman passed Daryl Strawberry as the franchise RBI king with 735. The Yankees big pre-season pitching acquisition, Michael Pineda will miss the entire 2012 season with a torn labrum in his pitching shoulder. Albert Pujols went 0-3 last night and is now hitless in his last 19 at bats.
Bayern Munich eliminates Real Madrid on penalties
Bayern Munich eliminated Real Madrid 3-1 on penalties to advance to the Champions League final vs Chelsea. Bayern will host the final May 19th and will be looking for their fifth Champions League title. The dream matchup of Real Madrid and Barcelona will not happen as both Spanish giants were eliminated in the semifinals.
The Chelsea/Barcelona semifinal on Tuesday broke the Twitter sporting event activity record previously held by this year’s Giants/Patriots Super Bowl. At the height of activity in Chelsea/Barca game messages peaked at 13,684 tweets per second shattering the previous record of 12,233 tweets per second during Super Bowl XVLI.
The PGA is at TPC Louisiana for the Zurich Open as Bubba Watson plays for the first time since winning the Masters. Luke Donald is a luke warm 11-1 favorite in the event. Steve Stricker, David Toms, Webb Simpson, Ernie Els, and Charles Howell III are other notables in the field.
The first round of the NFL draft is tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City starting at 8:00 PM EST. Andrew Luck will go first to the Colts, Robert Griffin III will go second to the Skins. Picks 3-10 are a crap shoot as teams look to move up and own to get the players they want. The first round is Thursday, the second and third rounds will be on Friday. Rounds four through seven will take place on Saturday.
