Dwight Howard expected to make decision today

The NBA holds its proverbial breath today as Dwight Howard is expected to decide where he will play. Once the D12 circus is over, the rest of the dominoes should fall into place. No hint of where the fickle Howard might wind up. The Lakers are bracing for the worst. The Warriors are desperately looking to make cap space. Sportsbetting3 will offer it’s two cents worth and go with the Houston Rockets as the Dwight Howard winner.

MLB News and Notes

After a tough month of June, the Tiger’s Justin Verlander was back to his dominant self as Detroit crushed Toronto 11-1. Verlander set down the first 11 Jays in order before leaving after seven innings of three-hit shut out innings. In his last start in Toronto (May 7, 2011), he pitched a no hitter.

Derek Jeter is doing baseball related running drills and feels he is ready to start rehabbing in minor league games. Jeter broke his left ankle in the playoffs last October 13th that required surgery. Jeter played in five exhibition games in March before a new break in the ankle was found April 18th.

In other Bronx Bomber news, Curtis Granderson took 15 swings with a lightweight pipe in a pool as he looks to rehab a broken knuckle. The Grandyman is also shagging fly balls in the outfield during batting practice.

Giroux gets $66 million from Flyers

The Flyers locked up captain Claude Giroux with an eight-year $66.2 million dollar extension. Giroux, 25, had 48 points in 48 games this season on 13 goals and 35 assists. In 2011-12, he had his best season yet with 28 goals and 65 assists for 93 points in 77 games. He’s a playmaker first, but he has shown an increasing ability to finish as well.

After 18 years as an Ottawa Senator, Daniel Alfredsson has decided to try for a ring by signing a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. Motown ponied up $3.5 million in base salary and $2 million in incentives for the 426 career goal scorer.

Gator quarterback signs with BoSox

Florida Gator quarterback Jeff Driskel has signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox after being drafted in the 29th round of the draft back on June 8th. Nothing will change for Driskel who will continue to pursue his college and possible NFL career. Driskel will however lose his college baseball eligibilty. Driskel has not played baseball since hitting .330 as a junior at an Oviedo, Florida high school.

More Aaron Hernandez

Aaron Hernandez has been a model prisoner to this point but the sheriff will not permit him to get married inside his walls. Hernandez is being held without bail on a murder charge and should Hernandez be allowed to marry his girlfriend, it could create “spousal privilige” problems when the case comes to trial.

Inspectors crack the whip at Daytona

Inspectors at Daytona have confiscated 31 roof flaps (including 16 from Sprint Cup series cars) that failed inspection after being found to have been machined down to reduce weight. Roof flaps are designed to keep cars from going airborne during wrecks and high speed spins.
