Less than 48 hours after announcing that this would be his final season, Ray Lewis is set to sign a multi-year deal with ESPN as an analyst that would have him doing feature work on Monday Night Football and other shows. No formal announcement will be made until after the Ravens have been eliminated from the playoffs.
49ers kicker David Akers has closed his twitter account after receiving death threats. Akers has been in a slump this year hitting on just 29 of his 42 attempts after a record breaking 2011 that saw him convert 44 of his 52 kicks. Akers reported has reported the threats to team and NFL security.
Bill O’Brien will remain the coach of Penn State after turning down several interviews from NFL teams with coaching vacancies. It had been reported that O’Brien had talked to the Browns and that there had been interest from the Cardinals and Chargers. “I’m not a one-and-done guy,” O’Brien told pennlive.com on Thursday night. “I made a commitment to these players at Penn State and that’s what I am going to do. I’m not gonna cut and run after one year. That’s for sure.”
Knicks spank Spurs, Wolves surprise Nuggets
Both dogs got the money on Thursday night’s usual TV double header with Knicks crushing the Spurs and the Wolves upsetting the Nuggets. At MSG, Carmelo Anthony had 23 points and eight boards and New York snapped the Spurs winning streak at seven. J.R. Smith chipped in with 20 off the bench. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker combined for just 22 points for the Spurs.
At the Pepsi Center, Kevin Love had 12 points and 17 rebounds as Minnesota stopped Denver 101-97. The games was decided on the glass where the Wolves held a 52-37 edge. J.J. Barea added 17 points off the pine for Minnesota. All five of his assists came in the final quarter. Kosta Koufas led the Nuggets with 17 points. Denver was flat after snapping the Clippers 17-game win streak two nights before.
“The Association” resumes play tonight with a full 11-game card that features the Lakers at the Clippers in the night’s finale.
Arizona stays unbeaten with controversial OT win
Trailing by double-digits throughout the game and by as many as eight with 90 seconds to play, No.3 ranked Arizona made a furious rally to send their game with Colorado into overtime where the 13-0 Wildcats sealed down a 92-83 win. With the game tied at 80, Colorado had a chance to win on the final possession of regulation. The Buff’s Sebastiano Chen launched a three from the top of the key that banked home but was ruled late after review on replay. Upon further review, the shot looked pretty to good to SB3 and the game announcers. Check out the highlights and you make the call.
