Sandoval’s three homers leads Giants to 8-3 Game One win

Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Albert Pujols, and now you can add Pablo “Kung Fu Panda” Sandoval to the pantheon of players to hit three home runs in a World Series game. Sandoval went yard in his first three at bats, twice against Justin Verlander, and finished four-for-four for the night leading San Francisco to a Game One 8-3 win over the Tigers. San Fran starter Barry Zito was razor sharp over 5 2/3 innings of six-hit one-run ball to get the win and Tim Lincecum slammed the door with seven outs of hitless relief. “The Freak” struck out five of the seven batters that he faced. Marco Scutaro continued to swing a hot bat with a 4-2-2-2 line and Angel Pagan chipped in with two hits from his lead-off spot. Jhonny Peralta has a two-run homer in the ninth for the Tigers.

In tonight’s Game Two from AT&T Park, the Tigers send Doug Fister to the mound to face the Giant’s Madison Bumgarner. Detroit is a -124 favorite with the total locked in at 7 flat. Fister is 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA over his last five starts. He rocks a 1.35 ERA in two no decisions in this years playoffs. Bumgarner is 2-4 with a 7.34 in his last seven starts, 0-2 with a 11.25 badge in playoffs.

Buccaneers at Vikings opens Week Eight

On tonight’s Thursday Night Football, Tampa Bay travels to the Metrodome to meet the Vikings. Minnesota opened as a -6.5 favorite and that number has not moved. The high/low opened at 41 and has been bet up to 42 1/2. The Buccaneers have won the last five games in the series including a 24-20 decision here last year. Tampa Bay is 0-2 on the road but covered both games. NFC dogs are 34-7-2 in 2012. The Vikings have allowed 14 points or less in four of their five wins. Four of the last five Buc games have gone over the total. Five of the last six Vike games have gone under the total.

Clemson vs Wake Forest tonight

Just one game on tap in college football tonight and it’s an ACC matchup between the Clemson Tigers and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Clemson opened a -13 point road favorite but early Deac money has that down to 12. The totals opened at 59.5 and is down half a tick to 59. Clemson has won four of the last five in the series but is only 2-3 straight up in their last five visits to Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is 13-6 in their last seven games as a home dog and Florida State is the only team to beat 4-3 Wake by more than a touchdown this year.

Islanders moving to Brooklyn

After years of trying to get a new arena to replace the antiquated Nassau Coliseum, the New York Islanders have decided to join the Nets in the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Owner Charles Wang made the announcement at a press conference. The Islanders will begin playing in Brooklyn at the beginning of the 2015-16 season, when their current lease with the Nassau Coliseum expires. The press conference was attended by everyone from Wang, to New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, to Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz.

Speaking at that same press conference, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman addressed the current state of the lockout …..

“The NHL Players’ Association has chosen not to engage on our proposal or make a proposal of their own,” said Bettman on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, it looks like an 82-game season is not going to be a reality.”

Nothing positive to report from the boys on frozen pond.
