Heat sweep Bucks, Spurs sweep Lakers, Celtics in OT, Golden State rolls

The Heat and Spurs completed series sweeps of the Bucks and Lakers respectively with easy wins. Miami eliminated Milwaukee with a routine 88-77 win at the Bradley Center. The Spurs drilled the Lakers 103-82 at the Staple center and now wait for the Denver/Golden State winner. Boston blew a 20-point third quarter lead but rallied to beat the Knicks 107-100 in overtime. New York still leads the series 3-1. Golden State routed Denver 115-101 to take a 3-1 lead in that series.

Pacers/Hawks IV is Monday feature NBA

Monday night’s NBA triple-header tips off at 7:05 with the homestanding Brooklyn looking to stave off elimination in their series with Chicago. Brooklyn is a -5.5 point favorite with the high/low 180. Game IV between the Pacers and Hawks tips at 7:35 PM EST. Atlanta is a -1.5 point favorite with total unchanged from the 186 opener. Indiana leads the series 2-1. Oklahoma City looks to complete a sweep of the Houston Rockets in the 9:35 PM EST finale. The Thunder are -1.5 to seal the deal with over/under set at 206 1/2.

MLB News and Notes

Twitter and other social media were abuzz on Sunday after Tampa Bay pitcher David Price accused home plate umpire Tom Hallion of swearing at him between innings. Price was the winning pitcher in the Rays 8-3 win over the White Sox. Hallion vehemently denied the accusation and the incident will most certainly be followed up by the league.

NHL Playoff Matchups

The NHL regular season came to a close on Sunday with the Ottawa Senators stopping the Boston Bruins 4-2 in a makeup game of a game cancelled as a result of the Boston bombings. The win gave the Senators the No.7 seed in the East bypassing the Penguins and setting up a date with Montreal. The loss cost the Bruins their division title and set up a first-round showdown with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Buffalo Bills stayed busy the day after the draft by signing free-agent problem child WR Da’Rick Rogers. Expected to be a mid-round draft pick, Rogers stock plummeted because of off-the-field issues during his first two years at Tennessee. The 6’2′ 216 pounder finished his career at Tennessee Tech and was ranked 11th out of the available wide out in this years draft.

Billy Horschel gets first PGA at Zurich

Former Florida Gator Billy Horschel won the first event of his PGA career firing an eight-under final round 64 to win the Zurich classic by a shot over D.A. Points. Horschel withstood two weather delays in shooting his course/tournament record final round. Horschel has been knocking on the door with three top-ten finishes in his last three tournaments.

Jon Jones suffered compound fracture of his big toe

As expected, Jon “Bones” Jones dispatched Chael Sonnen quickly in the main event of UFC 159 but he did not get away unscathed. Joenes suffered a nasty compound fracture to the big toe of his left foot. Jones was helped from the octagon and treated at a hospital where the toe was repaired. Dana White said post fight that if the referee had seen the tow during the fight, it would have been stopped. White also said that Jones would have not been allowed to come out for the second round had he not gotten the first round stoppage.
