Derrick Rose is 100% and ready to go
Derrick Rose says his surgically repaired knee is 100% and that he will be ready to play opening night with the Bulls. Rose has not played since tearing his ACL in February of 2012. He caused quite a stir this year by choosing to sit out all of 2013 rather than rejoin his team after being medically cleared to play in February. Whoop-dee-doo Derrick. The world is holding it’s collective breath.
Metta World Peace does 360, wants to play with the Knicks
Metta World Peace has cleared waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent. MWP indicated that he had no interest in returning to the NBA but possibly playing in China or trying Arena Football. This weekend he’s expressed interest in playing for his hometown Knicks. The Clippers, Bulls, Pacers, Heat, Spurs and Thunder have also expressed interest.
Kovalchuk signs 4-year deal with KHL
Earlier this week, New Jersey Devil sniper Ilya Kovalchuk shocked the world by retiring from the NHL leaving the remaining $77 million of his contract on the table. Now we know why. Kovalchuk has signed a deal with St Petersburg of the KHL for a reported four-years at $15 million per ….. about double what he was making in the NHL.
Manziel leaves Manning camp early
More drama in the Johnny Football saga. Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M did not finish his scheduled stay as a college coach/counselor at the 2013 Manning Passing Academy because he missed assigned meetings and practice sessions, apparently due to illness. Some reports (denied by the Manning camp) had Manziel missing the early meetings after late nights of partying. The Dallas Morning News reported that Manziel is recovering from dehydration.
Clady gets $57.5 million from the Broncos
Peyton Manning won’t have to worry about his blind side for the rest of his career. The Denver Broncos have reached an agreement with left tackle Ryan Clady on a five-year $57.5 million dollar deal with $33 million guaranteed. Monday is the final day for teams to sign franchise tagged players to long-term deals.
Vickers snaps 75-race winless streak at New Hampshire
Brian Vickers beat Kyle Busch in a green-white-checker finish to be the surprise Nascar winner at Loudon, New Hampshire on Sunday. Vickers snapped a personal 75-race winless streak with the win and may have secured himself a ride in 2014 with Michael Waltrip racing. Since his last win in Michigan in 2009, Vickers has battled a number of physical problems that included blood clots, a stent that was put in a vein in his left leg and two procedures to repair a hole in his heart.
Spieth becomes youngest PGA winner in 82 years
Nineteen-year-old Jordan Spieth became the youngest PGA winner in 82 years by surviving five playoff holes vs David Heath and defending champion Zach Johnson to win the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Spieth knocked down a short par putt for the win and earned his way into this week’s British Open at Muirfield, Scotland. Spieth, two weeks short of 20, is the first teenager to win on the PGA Tour since Ralph Guldahl took the Santa Monica Open in 1931.
