Lakers dump Portland behind monster game from Kobe

If the Lakers don’t make the playoffs, don’t blame Kobe Bryant. The future first ballot Hall-of-Famer had his best game ever in Portland and arguably his best game of the season as the Lakers came back from eight down at the half to beat Portland 113-106 at the Rose Garden. Bryant had 47 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks as the Lakers stayed a game ahead of the Utah Jazz for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Damian Lillard had 38 points and 9 rebounds for the Blazers who lost their ninth straight.

Red Sox sellout run done at 820

Baltimore’s 8-5 win over the Red Sox was unremarkable other than the Orioles getting five in the ninth to win and Red Sox not selling out at Fenway Park for the first time in 820 games. The home sellout run of 794 regular season games and 26 playoff games ended Wednesday with a 30,862 attending, well below Fenway’s capacity of 37,493. The 820 games is an all-sports record formerly held by the Portland Trailblazers at 814. The Cleveland Indians had previously owned the longest MLB sellout streak at at 455 (1995-2001) before Boston surpassed it on September 8, 2008.

Cubs owner receives a goat’s head in a package

Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts received an interesting package on Wednesday ….. it contained a severed goat head. The reference was to the “Curse” put on the team in 1945 by local restaurant owner Billy Sianis who brought his goat to a game but was asked to leave and vowed the team would never win again. The packages was anonymously left at Gate K at around 2:30 PM. It was turned over to the police who are investigating.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich on to Champions League Final Four

Barcelona and Bayern Munich moved on to the UEFA Champions League Final Four on Wednesday joining Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Lionel Messi, who has been nursing a sore hamstring, came off the bench in the 62nd minute and orchestrated the tying goal in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Paris St Germain. The teams also tied 2-2 in France sending the Spanish team through on away goals. Bayern Munich dominated Juventus again winning 2-0 at Torino and sweeping both games by a 4-0 aggregate. Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro hit the onion skin for the German side.
