Lincecum was a freak on Saturday

Just 11 days after being the losing pitcher to Homer Bailey’s no-hitter, Tim Lincecum threw one of his own ….. a 148 pitch 9-0 whitewash of the San Diego Padres. Hunter Pence saved the no-no with a spectacular diving catch in right field to end the eighth and also provided the offense with a homer and five RBIs. Lincecum struck out 13, walked four and hit a batter accounting for the whopping pitch count.

Rangers beat Tigers 7-1 dropping Scherzer to 13-1

Mitch Moreland and Andre Beltre homered and Nelson Cruz chipped in with four hits as the Texas Rangers handed Detroit starter Max Scherzer his first loss of the season …. 7-1. Scherzer was trying to become the first pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1986 to start a season 14-0. The Tiger righty did extend his streak of 19 straight starts with at least six strikeouts.

Hawks match Jeff Teague’s offer sheet for $32 million

Point guard Jeff Teague will remain in Atlanta after the Hawks matched an offer sheet from the Bucks for four-years at $32 million. Teague was a restricted free agent. The Hawks also re-upped Kyle Korver with a four-year $24 million dollar deal. Korver averaged 10.9 points and made 45.7 percent of his 3-point shots last season to rank second in the NBA. He has made a 3-pointer in 73 consecutive regular-season games, the league’s longest active streak.

Hamlin favored today in New Hampshire

Silva/Weidman rematch set for Dec 28th at MGM

The Anderson Silva/Chris Weidman rematch has been set for December 28th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as part of UFC 168. Weidman ended Silva’s eight-year 16 fight winning streak with a second round KO last week at UFC 162. The rematch will co-headline the UFC’s annual monster year end card along with the Rhonda Rousey vs Meisha Tate championship tilt.

US Soccer drubs Cuba 4-1 to advance to Gold Cup quarters

US men’s soccer got two goals from Wondolowski to beat Cuba in the qualifying round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The American’s advance to the quarterfinals with the win. The US will meet Costa Rica on Tuesday to determine the Group C winner. The Ticos are 16-1 in their L17 matches with the only loss coming to the US in a Colorado blizzard in March. Costa Rica has not been scored upon in 704 minutes.
