Jazz lock up final spot in the West, Bulls clinch top seed

On Tuesday, the Utah Jazz took care of their business with a 100-88 win over Phoenix at Energy Solutions Arena to claim the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. The NBA’s Sweet 16 is set with just two days left in the regular season.

With only seeding on the line Wednesday and Thursday, bettors will need to be aware of who will be resting their players and who won’t as many times this comes down to game time decisions. Just read the recap of last night’s Miami 77-68 loss at Boston. Lebron, Bosh, DWade, Kevin Garnett, and Rondo all sat. Paul Pierce played just 18 minutes and had eight points. If you are going to bet the next two nights ….. DUE YOUR DUE DILIGENCE!

On the court, Atlanta overcame 36 from Blake Griffin to down the Clippers 109-102. The Hawks were led by Joe Johnson’s 26 points, Josh Smith chipped in with 18 points and 10 boards. Oklahoma City beat Sacramento 118-110 behind 32 by Kevin Durant. DeMarcus Cousins had 32 for the Kings. James Harden, who caught the Metta World Peace elbow in the head, has yet to be cleared to play. New Orleans edged Golden State 83-81.

Devils force Game Seven, Caps/Bruins eliminator tonight

New Jersey got a goal from Travis Zajec at 5:39 of overtime to force a Game Seven in that series. The Devils trapping defense was at its best allowing Florida just 14 shots in the 3-2 win. The teams will settle matters Thursday night in South Beach. The Caps and Bruins play tonight in a win or go home for both teams. Boston is the -190 home ice favorite and the total five flat with the over -125. Home ice has meant nothing in this year’s NHL playoffs as the intruders have gone a dominating 28-17 through 45 games.

The Mets won 2-1 on an eighth inning walk. The Braves handed the Dodgers their first home loss of 2012 edging the Bums 4-3. The Rays hit four home runs and David Price tossed the second shutout of his career as Tampa Bay blanked the Angels 5-0. Albert Pujols is now hitting .235 with no homers and just four RBIs in his first 17 games as a Halo. Phat Albert is mired in a 0-15 slump with no RBIs since April 15th.

Chelsea eliminates Barcelona

In a stunning upset in the Champions League semifinals, Chelsea sent Barcelona packing with a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou. The Blues moved on by 3-2 aggregate after winning their home leg 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last week. Chelsea earned their draw down 2-0 and eventually down a man after John Terry was red-carded for a knee. The all important away goal cam from Ramirez on a chip two minutes into extra time before the half. Messi hit the woodwork twice, once on a penalty kick that would have sealed the deal for the Spaniards. Chelsea moved on despite just 25% possession and having completed 1192 less passes than Barca. Chelsea faces the Bayern/Real Madrid winner (played today, Bayern 2-1) in the Champions League final May 19th.
