Heat battle back to edge Celtics 105-103 for 23rd straight

The Denver Nuggets won their 12th straight game with a 119-118 OT victory over the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. Wilson Chandler had a 34-9-4 stat line for the winners. Nate Robinson had 34 in a losing effort for the home team.

Andrew Bynum will have season ending surgery to clear out debris in both knees. Bynum hasn’t played a minute with the 76ers since coming over to Phiadelphia in the three-way deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers.

NFL News and Notes

It was a slow day in free agency on Monday but there was still plenty of activity in the NFL nonetheless …..

The Cowboys and Dolphins will open the preseason when they meet in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton. Ohio on August 4th.

At the owners meetings in Phoenix, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that there would be no playoff expansion for the 2013 season although it would not be ruled out in the future.

The Tennessee Titans will reportedly sign ex-Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrck to a two-year to back up Jake Locker.

Ex-Titan backup Matt Hasselbeck will reportedly sign a deal with the Colts.

It’s Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in the WBC final

The Dominican Republic beat the Netherlands 4-1 on Monday and will face Puerto Rico in the WBC final at AT&T Park in San Francisco tonight. Puerto Rico eliminated the defending champion Japanese 3-1 on Sunday night. The Dominicans are 7-0 in the tournament and have already beaten Puert Rico twice. The Dominicans were the 13/4 second choices at the start of the WBC, Puerto Rico was 20/1. SB3 will post the line for the game when it becomes available.

Baylor gets to seed in women’s tournament

The Lady Bears of Baylor, led by Player of the Year Brittney Griner, are the top seed in this year’s women’s National Tournament. Notre Dame, UConn and Stanford are the other top seeds, the same as last year when all four top seeds won through to final four. Notre Dame has beaten UConn three times. Stanford handed Baylor its only loss in two years when it beat the Bears in the first game of the year this year. Baylor won the title last year with a perfect 40-0 season.
