NFL News and Notes

The Pittsburg Steelers will be as healthy as they’ve been in 2012 when they get three key pieces back for their Sunday inter-conference showdown with Philadelphia. Running back Rashard Mendenhall, linebacker James Harrison and safety Troy Polamalu completed a full week of practice on Friday and are all listed as probable to face the 3-1 Eagles. The Steelers are -3/-3.5 favorites so it is extremely important to shop this number regardless of what side you like. SP3’s world class sponsors can help you there. The Philadelphia/Pittsburg total looks to be 43 across the board.

Tigers and Reds win, NYY/Balt … Wash/St Lou Game I’s Sun

Saturday, Detroit and Cincinnati won the first games of their ALDS series matchups with Oakland and San Francisco. The Tigers beat Oakland 3-1 behind seven strong three-hit innings from Justin Verlander. Last year’s Cy Yound and MVP winner struck out 11 outdeuling Jarrod Parker. Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto lasted just eight pitches before departing with back spasms so it was Matt Latos to the rescue. Latos threw four innings of middle relief as five Reds relievers shut down the Giants on seven hits. Leadoff hitter Brandon Philips did the damage with the bat with three hits and three RBIs including a two-run homer.

Sunday, New York and Baltimore plus Washington and St Louis open their series. All four series are in action. At 12:05 PM EST, Detroit is a -150 home favorite over Oakland Tommy Milone faces Doug Fister. The Total is 7.5 shaded 20 cents to the over.
