National drop five spot on Verlander and roll

One of the bigger stories of All-Star game weekend was … what the hell was Pablo Sandoval doing starting for the National League at third base ??? Well … maybe all the Giant fans that stuffed the ballot box for the Kung Fu Panda knew what they were doing. Sandoval’s three-run triple off Justin Verlander highlighted a five-run National League first inning in the NL’s whitewash of the American League. The National League pitchers dominated the American League allowing just six hits as the AL sustained it’s worst beating in All-Star game history. Melky Cabrera chipped in with a two-run homer to take down MVP honors. It was the National League’s third straight win in the series and the National League champion will have home field in the World series.

Blake Griffin signs max-deal extension with the Clippers

The King of Lob City will reside in the City of Angeles for at least five more years after signing a Derrick Rose like five-year $95 million dollar super extension. With the super-max deal, Griffin will account for 30% of the entire Clippers salary cap during 2013-2014. Griffing could opt-out of the fifth year of the deal making him an unrestricted free agent in 2017. Griffin averaged 20.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 66 games last season.

Tim Duncan has agreed to a three-year deal with the Spurs for about $36 million, approximately the same deal that the Celtics gave Kevin Garnett. Rashard Lewis has agreed to a two-year $2.9 million dollar deal with the Miami Heat where he will be reunited with ex-Seattle Supersonic teammate Ray Allen. Grant Hill is reportedly considering the Heat, Thunder, and Lakers. Hill will be 40 in October.

Brees will hold out if he doesn’t get long-term deal

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are playing a stakes game of chicken as the July 16th 4:00 PM EST signing deadline draws near. The Saints have offered Brees what would be the richest contract in NFL history but Brees wants more with more guaranteed money. If the two don’t agree strike a long-term deal before the signing deadline, Brees will have to play under the $16.6 million franchise tag. Brees has said that he will not report without a long term deal.

Historic MLB cards found in Ohio worth $3 million ???

A Defiance, Ohio man digging through an attack has uncovered a rare baseball card collection estimated to be worth about $3 million dollars. Karl Kissner found the cards in a soot-covered cardboard box that was underneath a doll house. The box contained about 700 cards including several Ty Cobbs, Cy Youngs, and Honus Wagners. The cards are from the extremely rare Black Swamp series that were produced some time around 1910. he best of the bunch — 37 cards — are expected to bring a total of $500,000 when they are sold at auction in August during the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore.

Nascar hands out fines and supensions for Daytona infractions

Nascar handed suspensions and fines for failed inspections during last weekend’s racing at Daytona. It also docked Srint Cup and Nationwide winners Tony Stewart and Austin Dillon championship points for having unapproved vent hoses to the cockpit found after qualifying. Both Stewart and Dillion were penalized six points and their respective crews and teams heavily fined and with key members also receiving suspensions.
