Phoenix takes down Nashville in OT

The NHL semifinals started Friday night with Phoenix beating Nashville 4-3 in overtime. The Predators outshot the Coyotes 42-24 but Phoenix made theirs count. Ray Whitney will be 40 in ten days and celebrated early by netting the winner at 14:04 of the first extra period. Mike Smith outplayed Pekka Rinne in a showdown of red-hot net minders.

There are three games on frozen pond today including two matinees. Nashville and Phoenix do it again at 3:00 PM EST with the Preds -110 and the total five flat -125. Five minutes later at the mecca of Madison Square Garden the Rangers are 60 cents over the Caps, the total five flat and -135. The LA Kings travel to St Louis to face the Blues. St Louis is a -160 and the total five flat with the under an astonishing -165.

After the game, the Halos waived Bobby Abreu and called up Mike Trout from Salt Lake AAA. Abreu was hitting just .208 while Michael Trout was hitting .403 in Utah. The Yankees beat Detroit 7-6, scoring the winner on a wild pitch. Starters Justin Verlander and Bomber Ivan Nova both got no decisions. The Boston Red Sox won their fifth straight hammering the WSox 10-3 at the Cell.
