Wednesday in the NFLX camps
The final week of the NFL preseason kicks off tonight with three games and it’s more important than ever that you do your due diligence to read as much as possible on these games. After last week’s “dress rehearsal”, most starters will see little if any action as late round draft picks and the surviving free agents will duke it out to fill depth charts and pick the remaining special teams spots.
It is still a great opportunity to check out any of SP3’s world class sponsors for some of the best bonus opportunities in the offshore industry. You can never have too many outs and a half point here and a half point there will definitely make a difference to your season ending bottom line.
In a Super Bowl rematch, the new England Patriots face the New York Giants in preseason for the eighth straight year. The Giants opened as -1.5 point favorites but New England money has made the Pats a -1.5 point reverse favorite. The total has held steady at 41 and weather will not be a factor at the Meadowlands. Tampa Bay travels to Fed Ex Field to meet the Redskins. Washington is up a point to -4 while the total has been bet down a point to 40. Miami visits Big D for a date with the Cowboys. Dallas opened at -3.5 but Fish money has dropped the number to less (-2.5) than a FG. The high/low is down a point to 37. An expected heat index rating of 94 could cause the roof at Cowboy Stadium to be closed.
Notes from around the league …..
The Pittsburg Steelers deep threat wide out Mike Wallace has ended his hold out and reported to camp after signing his $2.7 million restricted free agent tender.
The Washington Redskins have released fan favorite Chris Cooley. The ex-Utah State Aggie is the leading pass catching TE in Redskin history but lost his job to Fred Davis.
MLB Diamond Dust
The Toronto Blue Jays will shut down slugger Jose Batista for the rest of the year as the power hitting outfielder will undergo surgery on his left wrist. Batista’s recovery period will be 3-4 months, plenty of time for Batista to be ready for spring training barring setbacks. Bautista finishes the season with a line of .241/.358/.527. He hit 27 homers in just 92 games, with 65 RBI and 64 runs.
The Minnesota Star Tribune is reporting that the Twins will host the 2014 All-Star game at brand new Target Field. No official announcement has been made by the team or MLB. Minnesota last hosted the All-Star Game in 1985, at the Metrodome. The 2013 All-Star Game is set for Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

Kenseth to race for Joe Gibbs in 2013
It looks to be official. ESPN is reporting that Matt Kenseth will leave Roush Fenway Racing after the season to join Joe Gibbs racing as the No. 20 team currently driven by Joey Logano with Home Depot as his primary sponsor. Logano could move on to Penske to drive A.J. Allmendinger’s old No.22 ride but JGR hopes to re-sign Logano is a sponsor for a fourth team can be found.
Blake Griffin says he’s back at 100%
Blake Griffin says that he has completely recovered from knee surgery and would be ready to go if training camp started tomorrow. Griffin underwent arthroscopic surgery last month to repair the medial meniscus tear of his left knee he suffered during Team USA’s training camp in Las Vegas on July 11, which forced him to miss the Olympics.
“If camp started tomorrow, I’d be ready to go,” Griffin said Tuesday. “I could go now if I needed to. I just needed to get the swelling out of the knee. That was the biggest battle. There’s nothing that needs time to repair or heal. It was just reducing the swelling and getting the strength back in my leg and once I got that, I was out on the court every day.”
The Clippers will need a healthy Blake Griffin early as Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups both recover from their respective off season surgeries.
