Pats win ugly 13-10, Texas Tech stops TCU, MLB News and Notes, Snedeker leads at BMW, US rolls to highest FIFA ranking ever + Thursday Recap: Friday, September 13, 2013

New England has more punts than 1st downs in rainy win over the Jets

The Patriots scored a touchdown just 2:06 into the game but managed just two field goals the rest of the way in Thursday’s 13-10 win over the Jets. New York had 86 more yards of total offense and eight extra minutes time-of-possession but turned the ball over four times on a rainy night in Foxboro. The game featured 20 punts as the teams combined to go 10-36 on third down. Dog and Under players made it to the cashier.

Texas Tech bumps No.24 Frogs, Tulane and Ark State EZ

Texas Tech led every step of the way in a 20-10 “upset” of No.24 TCU. The Red Raiders are playing some great defense and improved to 3-0 under new head coach and legacy Kliff Kingsbury. Tulane Tooped La Tech 24-15 as a touchdown road dog and Arkansas State rolled Troy for the third straight time taking a 41-34 decision at Jonesboro. The dogs were a perfect 4-0 college and pro last night.

Air Force at Boise State

Tonight’s Friday night college football offering is somewhat of a mismatch out of the Mountain West as Air Force travels to Boise to face the Broncos. Homestanding Boise is currently a -24 point favorite with the total set at 57 1/2. Boise was hammered at Washington but bounced back with a rout of tomato can Tennessee Martin. The Broncos are just 2-10 as a home favorite over the last two years. The Flyboys were spanked by Utah State at last weekend giving up 577 yards. Air Force is just 8-16 in their L24 lined games. Probably a good game to pass on.

MLB News and Notes

Jeff Locke won his first game in two months as the Pittsburg Pirates reclaimed a first-place tie in the NL Central with a 3-1 over the Cubs. Locke, an All-Star, snapped a run of seven winless starts.

Adrian Gonzalez’s run scoring single in the 10th inning gave the Dodgers a walk off 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. The Dodger win dropped their magic number to clinch the NL West to five and the Giant’s loss guaranteed them their first losing season in five years.

Snedeker shoots 63 at BMW, Tiger three back

Brandt Snedeker is the first round leader at the BMW Championship at Lake Forest, Illinois after a first round 63. Zach Johnson is alone in second just a shot back. Rory McIlroy shot a 78 and doesn’t figure to advance to next week’s final 30.
