Four first quarter turnovers doom Broncos

Atlanta took advantage of four first quarter Denver turnovers to build a 20-7 halftime lead and then survived a furious fourth quarter rally to beat the Broncos 27-21 at the Georgia Dome. Peyton Manning threw interceptions on the Broncos first three possessions and never found his rhythm until half way through the fourth quarter when it was too late. Matt Ryan was an economical 24-36 for 219 yards and two scores. His night could have been considerably better had it not been for several key drops by his receivers. Denver’s Willis McGahee ran for 113 yards on 22 carries and two scores.

As a side not of this game, Falcon running back Michael Turner was arrested for alleged DUI several hours after the game. Turner was booked just after 5 a.m. ET Tuesday and was released two hours later on a $2,179 bond. Turner had 42 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries against the Broncos.

The favorite and under were easy winners last night making the dogs 8-7-1 for Week Two and the over 8-6-2.

Given his age and the serious nature of the crimes of which he was convicted, Sandusky is likely to receive a sentence that will keep the 68-year-old in prison for life. He is jailed pending sentencing and maintains his innocence.

Nebraska football head coach Bo Pelini has been given a clean bill of health after being taken to the hospital at halftime of the Huskers 42-13 win over Arkansas State. Metta says the Lakers shooting for Bulls 73-9

With Dwight Howard and Steve Nash in the fold, Metta World Peace (the former Ron Artest) has thrown down the gauntlet in an interview with the Sports Radio Network …..

“We definitely want to beat the Bulls record and go 73-9, that’s definitely something that I want to do. Whoever is out there at the beginning of the season then we gotta get it. It’s as simple as that. We just have to go get it. (Host: So that Bulls record is something you’re thinking about?) No question. You try to snatch records before you leave this earth. You gotta try to do a lot of great things so it’s definitely a goal. With Dwight Howard, (Steve) Nash, Kobe (Bryant), myself, Pau (Gasol) and then (Antawn) Jamison and a lot of great additions it’s something that’s possible.”

With NBA camps just a couple of weeks a way, the first shot has been fired.
