Cards doomed by three errors, Wainwright rocked
St Louis was unable to overcome bad start by Adam Wainwright and shoddy fielding as the Boston Red Sox took Game I of the World Series 8-1. Mike Napoli’s three-run double in the first and 7 2/3 shutout innings by Jon Lester was all Beantown needed to draw first blood. The Cardinal showed early jitters with several miscues on the field. The final score could have been considerably worse had Carlos Beltran not robbed David Ortiz of a grand slam with a great catch at the wall in the second inning. Beltran hurt his ribs on the play and was removed from the game. Tests were negative and he is day-to-day moving on.
Game II is tonight with the Cardinals sending out rookie phenom Michael Wacha out to face the Red Sox John Lackey. Boston is a -115 favorite with the total set at 7 with the over shaded 15 cents. The first pitch is at 8:05 PM EST on Fox.
