The Saints and suspended head coach Sean Payton have agreed to a five year contact extension thought to be worth about $7.5 million per year. Payton had signed an extension after last year but that deal was voided by the league during the Bountygate fiasco.

An already bad Jacksonville Jaguar season just got worse. Maurice Jones-Drew has undergone surgery on hi left foot and will be out until May. MJD hurt the foot ten weeks ago in a game vs the Raiders leaving many to wonder why the team waited until now to do the surgery.

Ex-Duke gunslinger Thaddeus Lewis will start for the Browns in their Sunday season finale vs the Steelers. Injuries to starter Brandon Weeden and backup Colt McCoy opened the door for Lewis who will take his first snap against the league’s top rated defense.

The Bears Matt Forte is expected to start in Sunday’s must win game at Detroit. Forte injured his ankle last week at Arizona. Linebacker Brian Urlacher is doubtful and not expected to play.

UCLA knocks off No.7 Missouri in overtime

Much like the wonder kidz Kentucky Wildcats, the young and talented UCLA Bruins are starting to come around. Friday night, highly touted freshman Shabazz Muhammad hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:01 left in overtime to help UCLA upset No. 7 Missouri 97-94 to their winning streak to five games. It was the Bruins’ first win over a top-10 nonconference opponent since 2007. Muhammed led the way with 27 points. Travis Wear chipped in with 22 points and 9 boards. Phil Pressey had 19 points and 19 assists for the Tigers in defeat.

UFC 155: Dos Santos vs Velasquez Weigh-In

The UFC’s monster year-end card goes tonight with Junior Dos Santos (-200) defending his heavyweight title vs Cain Velasquez. Eight of the fights involve fights where the favorite is -200 or less so this should be an interesting, highly competitive and good card to bet. Indians get $30-$40 million year end wind fall

Fox has acquired Sports Time Ohio, the network that carries the Indians, from Cleveland owner Larry Dolan. The purchase price is thought to be in the area of $250 million dollars and the Tribe will also take down $30-$40 million dollars a year in media rights. This figures to to be a nice little bump for a small market team looking to regain the success it enjoyed in the mid-90s.
