MLB New and Notes

The Pittsburg Pirates throttled Milwaukee 10-3 for their seventh straight win and at 49-30, now have the best record on baseball. Their 20 year rebuilding process looks like it has finally come to fruition.

Delmon Young had a career high 6 RBIs has the Philadelphia Phillies throttled the Dodgers 16-1. The loss snapped the Dodgers six-game win streak and was the franchises worst home loss in 66 years and worst since moving to Los Angeles.

Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 25 games with a homer as the Colorado Rockies dumped San Francisco 4-1. Cuddyer’s strek is the longest in the majors this year and is also the Rockie franchise record.

Former MLB pitcher Justin Miller was found dead in Florida at 35. The cause of death is yet to be determined. Milller, a right-hander, went 24-14 with a 4.82 ERA across 216 games, 33 of which were starts, for the Marlins, Blue Jays, Giants and Dodgers. He was a fifth-round draft pick by the Rockies in 1997.

Hernandez now person of interest in 2012 drive-by double murder

A third suspect in the Olin Lloyd homicide has been arrested in Florida and charged with murder after the fact. Ernest Wallace is thought to be the third man in the car when Aaron Hernandez left with Lloyd from a bar and never returned. Lloyd was found dead the following day, shot execution style. It is know thought that Lloyd was killed for having knowledge of a double-homicide that Hernandez was involved in last year.

On a side note, the new England Patriots are offering a free exchange for Aaron Hernandez jerseys purchased at Gillette Stadium or online through the Patriots pro shop. The offer is good on July 6th and 7th. Get the details here.

Ray Allen picks up option with the Heat

Ray Allen has exercised his $3.2 million dollar player option and will remain with the Heat in 2014. Allen jumped ship from the Celtics to Miami last year and hit the key three-pointer in Game Six of the NBA finals vs the Spurs that led the Heat to their second consecutive world championship.
