Scott wins Green Jacket in playoff

Adam Scott became the first Australian to ever win the Masters after beating Argentinian Angel Cabrera on the second playoff hole. Both players made great shots on the 18th hole to tie at 9-under after 72 holes. Both players made par replaying the 18th. It was back to ten for the second playoff hole. Cabrera was first to go and his put for birdie stopped on the lip. Scott then calmly drained a 12-footer for the win.

Kobe Bryant out 6-9 month after achilles surgery

Kobe Bryant had a successful surgery to repair his torn achilles tendon and his recovery time is expected to be 6-9 months. Bryant had the one hour procedure Saturday after sustaining the injury Friday night in the Lakers win over Golden State. The Lakers beat the Spurs last night and need only beat Houston at home in their season finale to lock up the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

On the court, Dirk Nowtzki bacame just the 17th player in NBA history to register 25,000 points in the Mavs 107-89 win at New Orleans.

MLB News and Notes

Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay won the 200th game of his career as the Phillies stopped the Marlins 2-1 in Miami.

The Braves won their ninth straight and completed a weekend sweep of Washington with a 9-0 over the Nats.

Clay Buchholz took a no-hitter into the eighth before Kelly Johnson’s broken bat lead off single. Boston still went on to blank Tampa Bay 5-0.

NHL Rumor Mill: Sakic and Roy to run Avs ???

With the Colorado Avalanche set to miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five years, rumor had it that Avs ownership will fire the entire front office and coach and bring in legend Joe Sakic to run the show. Sakic was one the greatest to play the game and led the Avs to two Stanley Cups in his heyday. He has served in an advisory capacity since retirement and appears poised to take over operations. Patrick Roy was the backstop for those great Avs teams and he’s coached and done GM and front office work in the Juniors since his retirement. These two could be back together in Denver in the very near future.

Kyle Busch does the Texas two-step

Kyle Busch stalked Martin Truex Jr for most of the day then beat him at the jump after a caution in the final 20 laps to sweep the weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Busch won the Nationwide race on Friday night and Sprint Car event Saturday to jump to third in the standings for The Chase. Truex held on for second with Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Joey Logano rounding out the top five. Jimmie Johnson still leads the standings, nine points better than defending champion Brad Keselowski.

NFL News and Notes

The Steelers have matched the Pats $2.5 offer sheet to restricted free agent WR Emmanuel Sanders.QB Ben Roethlisberger reportedly had lobbied hard for the match.

Free agent linebacker James Harrison is reportedly close to a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. If the deal gets done, that would mean that Harrison would face his ex-mates twice. He was cut by Pittsburg in cap move last month after refusing to take a pay cut.

The Vikings are considering moving backup quarterback Joe Webb to wideout. Webb is a freakish athlete with unlimited potential albeit probably not at quarterback. Webb caught 30 passes as a sophomore at UAB before moving behind center.

Faber, Gastelum, and Zingano victorious at TUF 17

Urijan Faber, Kelvin Gastelum and Cat Zingano were the bug winners in Saturday’s TUF 17 finale card in Las Vegas. Faber choked out Scott Jorgenson in the fourth round of their main event fight to re-establish himself as a top contender in the bantamweight division. Faber has won his last eight non-title fights. Gastelum derailed the Uriah Hall hype-train with a split-decision win to take the TUF 17 season championship and a guaranteed three fight 100K deal in the UFC. In the second ever woman’s fight in the UFC, Cat Zingano choked out Miesha Tate yo earn a coaching spot on the next TUF and a championship match with Ronda Rousey.
