Tiger on fire early at the British Open

SP3 is posting early today due to MLB travel day and heavy matinee schedule. In the early going at the British Open (as of 8:00 AM EST), Tiger Woods is off to a good start at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Woods is -4 after 12 holes and trails Adam Scott by two shots and Zach Johnson by a shot. Weather conditions are perfect with no wind or rain whatsoever so scores are there to be had.

No Honey Badger at SEC media day

SEC media day is today and tomorrow and noticeably absent from Wednesday’s presser featuring LSU was the returning national Defensive Player of the Year and Heisman trophy finalist Tyrann “The Honey Badger” Mathieu. Les Miles explanation for his absence was simple, “We bring players that have leadership ability” Miles said. Thursday’s session that will feature Alabama will be without Tide starting quarterback A.J. McCarron. Mathieu and McCarron have been jousting on twitter and Miles and Saban obviously are not happy about it and sending messages early.

Skins sign RG3 to four-year $21.1 million fully guaranteed deal

With NFL training camps just days away, expect to to see the top draft picks to start falling into line. Robert Griffin III was the first to sign his deal getting $21.1 million over four years with a team option for a fifth year. It is virtually the identicle contract that Cam Newton got last years and similar to what Andrew Luck will get when his connections work out the fine print with the Colts. Think the rookie wage scale hasn’t worked out for teams ??? Luck and Griffin’s combined $44 million guaranteed money is $6 million less than what Sam Bradford got for the Rams and slightly more than the $39 million JaMarcus Russel got for winning seven games for the Raiders.

Thursday betting nuggets. The Marlin’s MarkBuehrle is 4-0, 0.94 in his last four starts while the Cubs Paul Maholm is 3-0, 0.84 in his last three outings. Should be a good one at Wrigley. The Rays David Price is 4-0 with a 2.78 ERA in his L5 starts. Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey has a 5.19 ERA in his last four starts. The Angel’s Jerome Williams is 0-4 in his L4 while rocking an 8.34 ERA. Boston’s Clay Buchholz has a 6.57 ERA in his last two starts.

The Giants have won five straight. The Padres have won four out of five and the Tigers are 8-2 in their L10 games. The Mets have lost six straight allowing 37 runs. Houston is 1-15 in their L16 roadies and 9-36 for the year on enemy soil. Kansas City has lost seven of eight.

The Nats are 7-1-1 Low in their L9 games. The Under is 12-2-1 in the L15 at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Under is 8-1 in the A’s L9 games. Four of the last five Braves games have gone Over the total. Twelve of the L15 Angel roadies have sailed Over the total. Five of the L6 Twins games have gone Over the total.

NBA News and Notes

Dwight Howard is apparently softening his stance about only playing for Brooklyn and has indicated that he would be open to signing a long-term extension if dealt to the Lakers. If the Magic can talk Andrew Bynum to take a max deal extension and a third party (Cleveland ???) is brought in to eat the contracts of Orlando’s Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson, this deal could be imminent.

The Lakers have signed veteran free agent forward Antawn Jamison to a one-year contract. Jamison is a solid rebounder and can knock down the mid-range jump shot and figures to be a solid backup to Pao Gasol.

The Denver Nuggets have signed seven-footer JaVale McGee to a four year $44 million dollar extension. McGee came over to the Nuggets at this year’s trade deadline in the deal that sent Nene to the Washington Wizards. McGee has always been extremely talented but has been thought of as a slacker and underachiever. It will be interesting to see if George Karl is able to do something with him.

Flyers sign Weber to $100 million dollar offer sheet

Philadelphia has signed Nashville Predator captain Shea Weber to a 14-year $100 million dollar offer sheet. The Preds will have seven days to match the offer or take four future first-round draft picks as compensation. Weber, a 26 year-old restricted free-agent defenseman, scored 19 goals and had 49 points last season and has 99 goals and 164 assists over his seven-year career.
