Sabine Lisicki ousts Serena in three sets

In the latest surprise at this wild Wimbledon, another top seed bites the dust as Serena Williams drops the final four games in her match with Germany’s Sabine Lisicki losing 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. The defending champ led 4-2 in the third but was unable to close out Lisicki and now joins Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova on the sidelines.

D12 makes the rounds, Chris Paul verbally agrees with Clippers

Dwight Howard has reportedly already met with the Lakers and Rockets and will also meet with reps of Golden State and Atlanta today as NBA free agency began at 00:01 this morning. Howard will meet with the Mavericks and the Lakers a second time tomorrow and has said he will make his final decision by July 10th.

Chris Paul has verbally agreed to a five-year $107 million max deal with the Clippers. This was pretty much considered a done deal when the Clippers were able to pull Doc Rivers out of Boston.

MLB News and Notes

Around the horn in the MLB ….. the Pirates won their 9th straight game, a walk-off 2-1 win over Milwaukee in 14 innings. Yu Darvish struck out eight in gaining his first win in seven starts with a 3-2 win over the Reds at Texas Stadium. Rook phenom Yasiel Pug had four more hits as the Dodgers rolled Philadelphia 6-1. Michael Cuddyer hit safely in his 27th straight game but the Rockies still lost at home to San Francisco. Jeremy Hellickson set a Rays franchise record with his fifth win in June beating Detroit 3-1. Chris Davis hit his 31st home run in the Orioles 4-2 win over the Yankees in the late ESPN game.

Multiple surprises in the NHL draft

The Colorado Avalanche took 17-year-old Nathan McKinnon with the first pick of Sunday’s NHL draft. McKinnon is a 6-foot 182 pound two-way center who hails from the same home town as Sidney Crosby. Seth Jones, Popeye’s kid, was thought to be the top player in the draft but fell to No.4 to the Nashville Predators.

Brazil routs Spain 3-0 to win Confederation Cup

Brazil scored 90 seconds into their Confed final with Spain and the 3-0 rout of the world champions was on. Fred had a brace scoring in the 2nd and 47th minutes while Neymar hit the back of the onion skin in the 44th. The loss ended Spain’s 29-game, three-year winning streak in competitive matches.

Kenseth wins rain delayed Kentucky

Matt Kenseth rolled the dice with a late fuel-only pit stop and cruised to his fourth win of the 2013 Nascar season.
Jimmie Johnson was dominant most of the day leading 182 of the 267 laps but spun on lap 246 finally finishing ninth. Jamie McMurray, Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five. Johnson leads Carl Edwards by 38 points in The Chase standings.

Inbee Park win Ladies US Open, now has first three majors

If Inbee Park were a man, she’d be getting all the headlines. Park won her second US Open on Sunday and has now won the first three jewels of the LPGA grand slam. Inbee beat In-Kueng Kim by four shots. Laura Creamer was the highest finishing American ending T-4 but was a full nine shots off the lead.
