The Miami Heat sent a statement to the West by spanking the Lakers 98-87 in a game nowhere near as close as the final score indicated. With Dwayne Wade on the sidelines, Lebron James went for 31/8/8 in what was basically a rout. The Heat led by 20 in the fourth quarter. The Heat are now 5-0 without DWade, 5-4 with him.

In other sports happenings Thursday, the Thunder signed PG Russell Westbrook to a five-year $80 million dollar extension.
Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter’s health has taken a turn for the worst and his condition is now considered grave. Carter has been battling brain ancer since last year. The Rams have a new head coach in Jeff Fisher and have just inked a deal that will have them play in London three straight years. Rams owner Stan Kroenke also owns Arsenal in the English Premier League. Finally, Yale ended Trinity’s 252-game 14-year win streak in college squash by winning 5-4. Just thought you oughta know.

(NBA) Denver at Washington Under 205.5

This is the Nuggets fourth game in six nights, the Wiz third game in five nights so no real edge on the fatigue side. The Nuggets have won four of five, the Wiz are off a rare straight up win over the Thunder and 2-4 this year as a home dog. Not interested in the side here but this is a solid spot to play high octane Denver under. The Nuggets fit a number of techs pointing to the low and the two games played on this trip were 200 and 192 (regulation). The Wiz are 9-5 to the under this year, 6-3 low at home, and 42-21 under over time vs the West. See this one closer to 190 than 200 and tonight we have 205.5 to play with. Go low.

(NBA) Chicago -5 over Cleveland

The Bulls responded to their loss on the MLK matinee card by blowing out the Suns by 21, it was business as usual. Tonight, Chicago is off a 72-hour blow. They likely won’t have Derrick Rose but this is a very deep team and tonight they’ll have som fresh legs. The Cavs are a fiesty 8-5 ATS and somewhat rejuvenated with top draft pick Kyrie Irving leading the way. The Bulls are are 10-6 ATS themselves and that’s with Rose in and out of the lineup and with Sin City putting premium numbers on every game they play. The Bulls are good and very deep. This one might be close at half but the Bulls pull away and extend late.

(CBB) Rider +16.5 over Iona

Iona is very good and one of the better hopes among the mid-majors to make a mark during March Mania but … the Gaels played a very ambitious road schedule, most it on the road, and it looks like it’s taking a toll now. The Gaels are 3-3-1 vs the points in their L7 and just 4-16 as a favorite of 12+ points. Rider is now good (6-13) but the Broncos play very hard and are 8-1-1 vs the number in their last ten. The Broncos can shoot the ball connecting on 45% from two and 38% from downtown. Rider has had some success here and we’ll kepp the backdoor wide open.

(NHL) Dallas -140 Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay has lost seven of eight, the Dallas Stars have lost four of five so something has to give. The Bolts can score with anyone but they also give up a ton of goals and are not getting the goaltending that took them to the Eastern Conference finals last year. Tampa Bay has given up 37 goals in their L8 and that’s pretty tough to outscore explaining their 6-19 road record. The Stars have come back to the field after a fast start but they are a decent 13-10 at home and 11-5 vs losing records. Take the Stars.
