VCU and Loyola Marymount open Bracketbuster Buster Weekend with wins
VCU and Loyola Marymount tipped off bracketbauster weekend with wins on Friday night. The Rams came from two down at half to beat Northern Iowa 77-68. The Lions had no let down from Wednesday’s upset win at St Marys by routinely dispatching Valpo 61-53. VCU and Northern Iowa would figure to get at large bids after winning their conference regular season titles. LMU and Valpo can only get in The Big Dance by winning their respective conference tournaments.
(CBB) New Mexico -5 over UNLV
The Rebels spanked the Lobos 78-63 back on January 21st but New Mexico has not lost since reeling of six straight wins and covers. Alford’s bunch is off nice double-digit road win at San Diego State in their last and The Pit has historically been a tough place to travel to and get away with a win. UNLV is off a crushing loss at TCU which will likely drop their seeding from a 4-5 to a 6-7 seed. The Rebs are the bomb at home but just 1-8 ATS on the road. The Lobos are 17-5 vs the points in their lined games 17-4 this year as a bully. Take the home team.
(CBB) Florida State at North Carolina State Under 135.5
The Sems were stuck on 37 points for almost six minutes before rallying for 11 points in the final 1:37 to survive Virginia Tech during the week. Florida State is a top five defensive team but are at times severaly challenged offensively. The under is 11-2 in FSU’s L13 as a road dog of three or less, 9-1 after 3+ Seminole non-covers, and 25-11 L36 vs winning records. The Wolf Pack is much improved but started celebrating 10 minutes too early blowing 20-point lead at Duke in last. The under is 9-3 in NCST home games and might prefer more deliberate half court game here. Play under.
(CBB) Buffalo +7.5 over South Dakota State
The 21-7 South Dakota State Jackrabbits are a nice story coming out of the Summit Conference that also features Oral Roberts, Oakland, and IUPUI and that bunch. The Jacks are 11-0 at home and will be fired up over getting a rare national TV game. SDST is 11-3 in their 14 lines games, 6-1 vs the points at Frost Arena. Buffalo is a full of sharp shooting snipers out of the MAC. The Bulls are 8-1 straight uo in their L9 but off loss at Kent, no shame there. Buff non-conference wins over Dayton and a two-point loss to Temple shows quality. Take the points.
(CBB) Illinois -2 over Nebraska
Illini hoops is pretty much mirror imaging Illini football. After starting 14-3, Illinois has lost seven of eight, strangely enough, the win coming over Michigan State. The horse might already be out of the barn in the case of a NCAA big but this is a season defining game for Weber’s crew in regards to whether they’ve quit. The Huskers have had a disappointing first season in the Big Ten. Nebraska is 3-8 ATS at home, 5-8 as a dog, Lincoln in the past has been a very tough floor for road teams to win at. The Huskers are 1-4 SU and ATS apparently have quit. Illinois has no excuses here.
(CBB) Cal Santa Barbara +3 over Utah State
It has been a tough year for the Utah State Aggies. They’ve lost more games this year than they genreally use lose in three years and are just 2-3 in their last five with one of the wins coming against Montana Tech. The 14-8 Gauchos aren’t much when it comes to techs but they’ve won five of six and seven of nine. UCSB was toughened up by a non-conf schedule that included UNLV, San Diego State, Washington, Cal, and BYU. The Gauchos can play and the wrong team just might be favored here. Take the points.
