Kansas OTs Missouri in an instant classic … Kentucky, Syracuse, and North Carolina escape unscathed

In the final regular season hardcourt Border War in the immediate future, #4 Kansas came back from a 12-point halftime deficit to turn back #3 Missouri 87-86 in overtime. Thomas Robinson has 28 and Tayshawn Taylor chipped in with 24 including two FTs with eight seconds left for the win. Marcos Denmon had 28 and Ricardo Ratliffe 22 for the Tigers. The two could meet in the Big 12 tournament but that will be it for a while in this rivalry as Missouri moves on to the SEC.

Vandy played Kentucky tough for a half before falling 83-74 in Lexington. All-Everything Super-Frosh Anthony Davis had a career high 28 going 10-11 from the field. It was the Cats 51st straight home win, John Calipari is yet to lose at home since taking over UK. Syracuse held off a late UConn rally for their first win ever at Gampel Pavillion in Storrs. A Fab Melo putback with 30 secs left sealed the deal. Duke avoided an unheard of third home loss by clipping hard luck Virginia Tech in overtime. Austin Rivers had 23 for the Blue Devils. North Carolina stopped #25 Virginia 54-51 in an ACC brickfest that saw both teams shoot a combined 38-121 from the field.

(CBB) North Texas +9.5 over Denver

Both these teams have terrific techs and you could make an equally strong case for either. That said, you just cant’ pass on the Mean Green getting almost double-digits. The 16-12 boys from Denton have covered 13 of their L14 including a 75-74 home win (+5.5) over Denver back on January 21st. In that game, NTU tunned the ball over 17 times but crushed Denver on the boards 49-27 including 11-3 on the offensive glass. The Pioneers used to be an automatic play in the blind on their home court. The secret is out however and you have to pay a premium like your’re paying here.
You have to go back to Dec 3rd to find a game North Texas lost by DDs. Their L6 by 3-3-2-2-5-4. Take the points.

(CBB) Iowa +6 over Illinois

Illinois is arguably the most disappointing team in college basketball this year. Strangely enough, the Illini have wins over Ohio State and Michigan State but in all the games in between they are 0-9 SU and ATS including six straight. They were blown out by Ohio State in a revenge match in last, no big deal but … two back they were beat 80-57 at Nebraska, a clear indication that they’ve quit. The Hawkeyes are not much but are much improved and have Big Ten road wins at Wisconsin and Minnesota. They could win straight up here.

(CBB) Florida State at Miami Fla Under 128.5

These teams met in Talahassee two weeks ago with the Seminoles winning 64-59, the 124 points falling comfortably short of the 133.5 final total. FSU is one of the better defensive teams in college hoops. They are tall, long, athletic with mad hoops and … often go long stretches without scoring themselves. Four of the last five games in the series and five of the last seven in the series played on this floor have gone under. No reason to think that won’t be the theme here. Go low.

(CBB) Akron +4 over Ohio U

The Zips are 9-1 in their L10 and 17-3 in their L20 after a tough early non-conference schedule that should have them ready for this time of the year. Akron lost their bracketbuster game at Orla Roberts, no shame there … they’ve covered eight of their last nine MAC wins and beat these same Bobcats 68-63 in the Rubber City January 14th holding the Bobcats to just 35% from the field. Not much to find wrong with the 22-6 homies but they’re just 8-8 as a favorite and 6-4 ATS in ten lined home games. The wrong team is favored here.
