Wisconsin -14 over Illinois
The Badgers are back in control of the “Leaders” division of the Big Ten and need only to take care of their business to get a Big Ten Championship Game nod. They face an Illni outfit that can’t score and has pretty much quit. Illinois has lost four straight and been shut out in the first half of all four games managing just 42 total points. That doesn’t figure to change here as Wisky is statistically the best team they’ve faced all year. Badger QB Wilson still leads the NCAA in passing efficiency and rocks a lights out 25-3 TD/Int ration. TB Monte Ball has rumbled to 1267 yards (6.7 ypc) and 27 touchdowns. Both players will pad those numbers here in a routine. Wisconsin 45-14 victory.
Penn State at Ohio State Under 39
If you saw last week’s Penn State 17-14 loss to Nebraska, you really won’t be missing anything by not watching this one. Both teams are extremely offensively challenged, live exclusively off their defenses, and both come off deflating disappointing losses last week. Both teams have also had their share of distractions. Ohio State has bounced back big off their losses and the Nits have covered seven straight off their L7 straight up losses so not really interested in the side here. Figure to see lots of play between the 20’s here in a game that could actually be decided by field position and the place-kickers. Play the Under.
Houston -19.5 over SMU
Houston has to be fired up about Boise State losing as the Cougars are now are looking at a shot at a possible BCS bid. That would be BIG money to UH and CUSA so Case Keenum (37 TDs) and the Coogs will be firing on all cylinders. UH avgg 55 ppg and figure to get little resistance from the Mustang defense. We’ll give SMU a mulligan for a disinterested effort in their non-conference game loss to Navy last week but the Stangs have lost three of four, not the way you want to coming into a game that will decide this side of CUSA. Houston has shown no compunction about laying beat downs on anyone and now they’re auditioning for a BCS bid, likely against the Big East winner. Style points do matter here. Call this one Houston 55-21.
Florida State -17.5 over Virginia
You could make a case for grabbing the points with Virginia here as the Cavs are still alive in the ACC Coastal and the Sems are in a Miami Fla -Florida Gator sandwich. Still in all, Florida State has been rolling these second tier ACC clubs and the ferocious FSU pass rush will be bringing the heat on Cav QB Rocco. Virginia hasn’t lost by more than two touchdowns this year and in their last trip to Florida upset the Canes. That said, Florida State easily rolled UVa 34-14 last year and looking at this kind this year, we see 41-16 over Duke, 41-16 over Maryland, 34-0 over NC State, and 38-7 over Boston College. Virginia is a notch better than those but not much. Florida State 41-13.
