Pittsburg -7 over Utah
These two met last year in college football’s season opener and the Panthers came back from DD deficits twice to fore overtime before falling 27-24. This will be a true revenge spot for a Pittsburg team that will be in a foul mood after getting punked at Rutgers last week. In that game, the Panthers committed four turnovers and were never in a game they extra time to prepare for after spanking South Florida in front of a national TV audience. Utah hasn’t found the Pac 12 very hospitable (0-3 SU and ATS) and they make tough three time zone trip East into a real tough spot. Ray Graham (RB) is the real deal and figures to have a big day today as Pitt gets back on track in front of the home folk.
South Carolina -2/5 over Mississippi State
The South Carolina Gamecocks are a pretty good team without Garcia and may be that much better with this punk in the rearview mirror. Connor Shaw (26-39, 311, 4 TDs LW vs Kent) is more than adequate and will have the benefit of the entire week working with the first team. The Bulldogs will also likely go with a QB change with superior throwing Tyler Russel taking over for Chris Relf. Mississippi State’s OL is real banged up and that doesn’t bode well against a defense that leads the SEC in sacks with 14 and takeaways with 22. We haven’t even mentioned USC’s stud back Marcus Lattimore. South Carolina still has bigger fish to fry and can still win the SEC. Mississippi State has yet to take the next step from a second tier SEC outfit. South Carolina 38-24.
Georgia Tech -7.5 over Virginia
The Yellow Jackets sleepwalked through a 21-16 win at Maryland scoring 25 points less and gaining 250 less yards then their then season averages. We’ll give them a mulligan after some pretty good wins over the North Carolina schools. Virginia has turned the ball over 13 times in its L4 games and avgg just a pedestrian 24 ppg, nowhere near enough to hang with the Jackets at their best. The Cavs have are off a bye and have extra time to prepare for the Flexbone but eight of their L10 ACC losses have come by DDs and this offense is as explosive as they come. GTech 477 and 362 ON THE GROUND in the last two series meetings. Lay the points.
Kansas State at Texas Tech Over 59
You just can’t say enough about Bill Snyder who has the Wildcats on B2B2B wins over Miami Fla/Baylor/Missouri. KSU can do it however you want to do it, by either outscoring you like they did vs Baylor or playing defense like they did last week in their upset win over Mizzou. Not much new in Waco even with Tuberville calling the shots as Red Raider games are avgg 73 ppg in 2011. TT avgg 669 ypg in the L3 in the series and licking their chops to pad the stat book here. Not interested in backing either side but the points will be flying and the game could be decided by who has the ball last. Play the Over.
