Knicks 19 treys shoot down Boston
The Knicks set an NBA record with 14 first-half three pointers to race out to a 72-53 lead then holding on to beat Boston 118-110. New York shot a blistering 14-21 (67%) in the first two periods and finished 19-32 (59%) from downtown for the game. Carmelo Anthony (35/12/10) had his second career triple-double as the Knicks moved into the seven spot in the East, one game ahead of the slumping 76ers. Paul Pierce had 43 points for the Celtics.
Last week the Lakers went in San Antonio without Kobe Bryant and rolled the Spurs 98-84. Last night, San Antonio returned the favor punking the still Kobe-less Lakers 112-91 at the Staples Center. The Spurs led 63-47 at the half and never looked back shooting 50-84 (59%) for the game. Tony Parker led the way with 29 points and 13 assists, Tim Duncan had 19 points and 8 rebounds. Andrew Bynum led the Lakers with 21/7 as Kobe Bryant missed his sixth straight game.
The Indiana Pacers took another step towards locking up the three-seed in the East with a five point win over Philadelphia.
Indy knocked down 13 of 24 trifectas for the win. The Pistons took Cleveland out behind the woodshed with a 116-77 beating at Auburn Hills. Detroit became the fifth team in the last 20 years to lead by 50 (100-50) after three quarters. Memphis beat Minnesota 91-84 sending the T-Wolves to their 11th straight loss. Minnesota has lost an incredible 27 straight games in the month of April.
Panthers come down 0-3 to beat Devils, Wings down 3-1 after getting swept by the Preds
Down 3-0 just seven minute into their Game III with the Devils, the Florida Panthers appeared to be toast. After all, they hadn’t won a road playoff games since 1996 and they were facing certain first-ballot Hall-of-Famer Martin Brodeur in net for New Jersey but … three power play goals against the league’s best penalty killers including Brian Campbell’s wrist shot at 6:34 of the second period lifted Florida to a 4-3 win. The Panthers regained home ice after New Jersey had secured a split in the first two games of the series in South Beach.
The Nashville Predators took a commanding 3-1 lead in their series with Detroit after a 3-1 win at Joe Louis Arena. After a scoreless first two periods, the Preds beat Motown netminder Jimmy Howard three times in the third to seal the deal. Nashville can eliminate the Wings Friday night in Music City. Mikkel Boedker’s goal at 13:15 of the first overtime gave Phoenix a 2-1 lead in their series with Chicago. The Desert Dogs scored two goals in a 65 second span of the third period to get to extra time.
It was the second night in a row that the road teams swept the board. The road team is now 17-8 in this year’s NHL playoffs. In tonight’s action, the Rangers are -130 favorites over Ottawa. The total is five flat with the over -130. New York leads the series 2-1. The Flyers are 125 favorites over Pittsburg with a whopping total of 6.5, the over at -130. Pitssburg is 28-91 lifetime in Philly and have their backs against the wall. The Kings can sweep the Canucks with a win at the Staples Center. The upstart eight-seeds are -140, the totals is five flat with the under -140.
Jamie Moyer (49) becomes oldest pitcher to win a game, Ozzie wins in return
At 49 years and 151 days, the ancient Mariner has become the oldest pitcher in MLB history to win a start. Jamie Moyer threw seven innings of six-hit shutout ball to get the win in Colorado’s 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres. It was Moyer’s 268th career win. The Sellersville, Pennsylvania native made his first career start in 1986 facing Steve Carlton. It was Albert Pujols bobblehead day at Edison Field but the Angels still lost to the A’s 5-3. Pujols went 1-4 and has now gone 43 at bats without a home run, the slowest start of his career.

Bayern Munich beats Real Madrid 2-1 in Champions semi, Chelsea and Barcelona today
Mario Gomez scored in the 90th minute on Tuesday to give Bayern Munich a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal. Gomez’s 12th goal of this year’s competition boosted Bayern’s hopes of becoming the first team to play the Champions League final at its own stadium, and earn its fifth title. The teams meet in the second leg next Wednesday in Madrid.

You knew that it was coming, it was only a matter of when. Here is the announcement. Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are expected to go 1-2 in the draft. In other college basketball news, it looks like 71-year-old Larry Brown will be hired as the next coach of the SMU Mustangs.
