Amare punches locker room fire extinguisher, status unknown

The Heat beat the Knicks 104-94 to take a 2-0 lead in their first round best-of-seven series with New York but the big story was Amare Stoudamire punching a fire extinguisher case in the locker room, severely lacerating his hand and leaving his status up in the air for the rest of the series. Paramedics treated the Knick power forward in the locker room and Stoudamire left American Airlines Arena with his arm in a sling and his hand tightly wrapped.

On the court, Miami’s big three of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh combined for 65 points, 15 rebounds, and 17 assists. The Heat shot 52% from the field and committed just eight turnovers. Carmelo Anthony had 30 points and none rebounds in defeat. Stoudamire had 18 points and seven rebounds. The teams meet again on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks have lost 12 straight playoff games dating back to 2001.

Indiana blew out Orlando with a 30-13 third quarter to turn back the Magic 93-78. The Pacers shot just 2-20 from downtown but saved their own bacon by nailing 25-28 from the FT-line. Orlando led 44-42 at half but were held to just two points on 1-8 shooting over the final 6:50 of the decisive third quarter. Glen “Big Baby” Davis led the visitors with 18 points and 10 rebounds. David West, Danny Granger, and George Hill all had 18 points for the Pacers.

Oklahoma City overcame 31 points for the Mavs Dirk Nowitzki to beat Dallas 102-99. The Thunder lead the series 2-0 as they head to Big D for Thursday’s Game III. Russell Westbrook had 29 points for the Thunder, Kevin Durant added 26 points and 10 rebounds. The difference in the game was OKC connecting on 37-39 foul shots while Dallas could knock down just 5-23 from beyond the arc.

King still perfect on the road after dominating 5-2 win

The LA Kings took a commanding 2-0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal after a convincing 5-2 win over the homestanding St Louis Blues. LA blitzed the Blues for four first period goals including two from Anze Kopitar, more than enough support for Jonathan Quick who turned back 25 St Louis shots. Alex Ovechkin’s power-play goal at 12:33 of the third period was the winner as the Washington leveled their series with the New York Rangers. Ovechkin had just 16:00 minutes of total ice time as Cap HC Dale Hunter has chosen to use him only in offensive situations.
