March Madness resumes tonight with the East West regional semis. In the East in Washington D.C., the early game features Miami Florida taking on Marquette. The Hurricanes are 5 1/2 point favorites. The total is 127. The Canes will be without center and leading rebounder Reggie Johnson who is out for the weekend after having a minor knee procedure. In the late game, top-seeded Indiana is a 5 1/2 point favorite over No.4 Syracuse. The total is 136.

Out West at the Staple Center, No.6 Arizona takes on No.2 Ohio State. the Buckeyes are 3 1/2 point favorites with the high low 134. In the night’s finale, the tournament’s first ever 9-13 matchup takes place with Wichita State taking on LaSalle. The Shockers are 4 1/2 point favorites with the over/under 134 1/2. the last tip goes at 10:17 EST on TBS.

Two No.1 seed bounced in the NIT

Wednesday night in the NIT, two No.1 seeds were spanked on their home floors. Iowa, behind 24 from Roy Devyn Marble, eliminated Virginia 75-64. Justin Anderson had a career high 24 for the Cavaliers. BYU crushed Southern Miss 79-62. The Cougars took a 40-29 lead to the half and never looked back. Both Iowa and bYU now travel to New York for the NIT semis.

Bulls muscle Heat 101-97 to end win streak at 27

The Chicago Bulls knew that they would have to get physical with the Miami Heat to win. They were, they did …. winning 101-97 in front of 23,000 strong at the United Center and ending the Miami win streak at 27 games. The Bulls used 28 points including a couple of dagger threes from Luol Deng and 21/17 from Carlos Boozer in what was essentially a wire-to-wire win. Down nine at the half, the Heat managed to take a one-point lead at 69-68 before the Bulls regained a lead they would never relinquish.

Flames ship Igilna to the Penguins

SB3 reported yesterday that Jerome Igilna was one of the stars that figured to be moved before the trade deadline. After a healthy scratch last night against Colorado, you pretty much knew that something was in the works. This morning, Jerome Igilna is a Pittsburg Penguin. After 16 years as a Flame, the stat leader if every Calgary offensive Calgary waived his no-trade option for a chance at the Stanley Cup. In 1,219 career regular-season games in 16 seasons, all with Calgary, he has 525 goals and 570 assists. He has 28 goals and 21 assists in 54 career playoff games, and has played for Canada in three Olympics. Iginla assisted on Crosby’s gold-medal-winning goal for Team Canada in the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Falcons sign Umenyiora to a two-year deal

The Atlanta Falcons have signed former New York Giant DE Osi Umenyiora to a two-year $8.5 million dollar deal, $5 million of which is guaranteed. Umenyiora won two Super Bowls and registered 75 career sacks in ten years with Big Blue.

Judge rules Pistorius is not a flight risk, grants bail

A South African judge has ruled that para-Olympian Oscar Pistorius is not a flight risk and has granted him bail. Pistorius must surrender all weapons, report daily to police, and not travel outside the city without the permission of prosecutors. Pistorius is being held for the Valentine’s Day murder of his 29-year-old super-model girlfriend. Pistorius is charged with shooting Reeva Steenkamp four times while she cowered behind a bathroom door.
