Lebron dagger late sinks the Spurs 95-88

The Miami Heat are the NBA champions for the second straight year. The Heat beat San Antonio 95-88 in last night’s Game VII finale to claim the third title in franchise history. Lebron James led the way with 37/12 while Dwayne Wade added 23 points and 10 boards. The Heat got a key contribution from Shane Battier who had 18 points on 6-8 from downtown. Tim Duncan has 24 and 12 for the Spurs but in the end it was his missed swing hook at 90-88 with 45 seconds left that did in San Antonio. A Lebron 16-footer with 27 second left and foul shots sealed the deal for Miami.

James wins second Finals MVP

Lebron James is now a two-time NBA champ and also a two-time NBA Finals MVP. James dominated Game Seven with 37 points and 12 rebounds and averaged 25/11/7 for the series. James becomes just the third player to be named the regular season MVP and the NBA Finals MVP in the same year.

Hernandez to be charged with obstruction of justice

The latest news in the Aaron Hernandez saga is that a warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of obstruction of justice charges. Hernandez is involved in an investigation of a homicide in a suburb of Boston where a 27-year-old known associate of Hernandez was found shot in the back of the head gangland style. The victim was tied to Hernandez through a rental vehicle in the Pat’s TE name. Hernandez has allegedly been uncooperative with law enforcement and reports have Hernandez turning in his cell phone in pieces, police finding his home surveillance system purposely trashed and having a cleaning agency in on Monday to “scrub” the home. More on this as new information becomes available.

MLB News and Notes

Most of the news Thursday came from the injury blotter. Ryan Braun’s inflammation of the nerves around his thumb and index finger could keep him out for as long as a month. he is currently on the 15 day DL. San Francisco lead-off man Angel Pagan was carted off during a rehab start at single-A San Jose and may require surgery on his damaged hamstring. Cardinal ace Chris Carpenter suffered a low back injury during a bullpen session and his further rehab has been put on hold. A-Rod is ahead of schedule rehabbing his surgically repaired hip and could be playing rehab games before the All-Star break.

On the field ……

Adam LaRoche had three hits and Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight innings to notch his 10th win in the Nats 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Evan Longoria homered twice and Matt More snapped a persona three-game skid as the Rays bounced the Yankees 8-3. The Bombers are just 2-7 in their L9 games.

The Angels came from seven runs down to beat Seattle 10-9. The Halos got the winner on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth.

Wambach scores four in US win, breaks Mia Hamm’s all-time goal record

Abby Wambach became the top goal scorer in women’s international soccer Thursday night scoring four times in the US’s 5-0 rout of South Korea. The four goals gave the 33-year-old Wambach 160 in 207 games, two more than Hamm had in a storied 275-game career that ended in 2004. Also notable in the game was Hope Solo making her first shot since wrist surgery. Solo made one save on a weak shot in a game that was played primarily on the South Korean side.
