2023-24 NBA Eastern Win Totals Odds for All Teams

Here we are at the beginning of a new NBA season, and the excitement is once again very high. The Eastern Conference is full of many talented teams, and it appears the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks will be fighting for the top spot. Meanwhile in Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell will try to help the Cavaliers take the East. The Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers — who are in the same division as the Celtics — will not make it easy this year, as they both sport win totals above 50 victories. Without further ado, let us take a look at some Eastern Conference squads and if you should go over or under.

Boston Celtics

The win total for the Celtics (53.5) is a difficult one, especially after a tumultuous offseason. The rollercoaster ride for Boston began with the tremendous turnaround in early 2022 which led to the team to a Finals run. The Golden State Warriors showed them who is boss, and then Ime Udoka’s scandal and suspension overshadowed the Celtics’ addition of Malcolm Brogden. The Celtics’ 51-31 record last season included a 33-10 finish. Many are betting on the under (-125), but Boston should be able to find a way to hit the over (-104).

Milwaukee Bucks

Will the Bucks (52.5) be more formidable this season? Well, health will play a part in their 2023 Finals chances. First, let us take a look into how their regular season should go. The Bucks seem to be a top-two team in the Eastern Conference this season, and they have a chance at being the best one. 52.5 wins seems to be low for a team that can dominate with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday most nights. Mike Budenholzer’s squad also added Joe Ingles during the offseason to boost a bench that sports Bobby Portis, George Hill, Wesley Matthews, and Pat Connaughton. Take the over (-121).

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavaliers (47.5) are coming off a 44-38 record, their best season since LeBron James left for the Los Angeles Lakers. Cleveland made a 22-win improvement from 2020-21 to 2021-22, with Jarrett Allen being the team’s best player in terms of win shares each of those two seasons. The 24-year-old center is back along with Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Caris LeVert, and they are accompanied by new addition Donovan Mitchell, a three-time all-star. The Cavs are primed for another uptick in wins, but can they increase by four more victories? Mitchell has been a part of some very successful regular season teams — five of the last six Jazz seasons finished with at least 48 wins, so go with the over (-114) for Cleveland.

Miami Heat

The No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season was none other than the Heat (49.5) with a 53-29 record. The win total for this season expects a regression, and it is understandable with the lack of additions to the Heat roster. Erik Spoelstra will not have an easy task this year, as Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro will have to take the reins again. The tandem fought hard in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals but came up short. Victor Oladipo will be continuing to come back from a devastating injury, and maybe rookie Nikola Jovi? could surprise some people this season. Take the under (-114) on a playoff team that should have a lower seed this time around.

What is an NBA Win Total Bet?

The season win total is part prop, part future hybrid. The plus and minus values assign odds to either side of the team’s win total line. This bet functions like a total bet. Choose either over or under the sportsbook’s line. Bet NBA win totals before your team plays its first game.

Example Boston Celtics Season Wins

  • 53.5 u -125
  • 53.5 o -104

This win total line includes ½ games. That means no tie bets are possible.

Options:
Risk $125 to win $100 that Boston wins fewer than 53.5 games. A result of 53 or fewer wins.
Risk $104 to win $100 that Boston wins more than 53.5 games. A result of 54 or more wins.

How to Handicap an NBA Win Total Bet

Handicap a team’s NBA win total using its upcoming schedule, likely starters, and any recently drafted players. Remember, you can bet under the sportsbook’s line if the win total is too high. If you believe a team is likely to win fewer games, bet under a win total line that looks too high.

Avoid betting on your favorite NBA teams or others that you otherwise root for. “Fan bias” is real. It can cloud the judgment of even the most seasoned sports handicappers. Better to research and bet on a team you don’t know much about.

The NBA season is long. Each team plays 82 games before the playoffs begin. That means it’s important to factor team and player fatigue into your NBA win total handicapping analysis. Can the team’s starters go the distance? Will they easily exceed the sportsbook’s line or will it be a struggle?

Always consider both sides of a win total line. The line is set by the sportsbook. It may move as betting action piles up on one side more than the other. The team doesn’t have to “win” the exact win total line. Instead, you’re deciding whether their actual number of wins will be more or fewer than the sportsbook’s line.

Finally, be careful when betting whole number lines like 38, 42, or 52. A tie is possible when the sportsbook doesn’t set a .5 half-win line. The good news: you get your bet back if the bet pushes. The bad news: you tie up money in the bet waiting for a result. NBA whole number win total lines are less common.
