NFC Win Totals

The NFC’s two best squads in 2021 were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. They finished with 13 wins apiece in the NFL’s first 17-game season. The Packers won the tiebreaker and received the first-round bye. However, neither team made the NFC Championship Game, which was played between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. The Rams would go on to win that game, 20-17, and win their second Super Bowl ring in franchise history.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was a crazy offseason for the Buccaneers (11.5), who saw their Hall of Fame quarterback retire, their head coach fired, and then their quarterback unretire. The Super Bowl LV champions are looking for their third Super Bowl ring for the franchise. They are expected to make their third consecutive postseason this upcoming season. The only time that the Bucs made the playoffs three straight years was when they did it four times (1999 to 2002). Will Tom Brady and company be able to play like the squad did in 2020? This time, it will be with head coach Todd Bowles.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers (11) have a long history of success, and 2021 MVP Aaron Rodgers is ready to bring the team back to the Super Bowl for the first time since Green Bay won against Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV. It is surprising that the Packers have not won an NFC Championship Game since then, but they have been in two of the last three. In addition, head coach Matt LaFleur has won 13 games in each of his first three seasons. Can he make it four? He will have to do it without Davante Adams, who is in Las Vegas now.

Dallas Cowboys

America’s Team made a big splash in the NFC East in 2021, as the Cowboys (10.5) won 12 games and made the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Mike McCarthy, who coached the Green Bay Packers to their last Super Bowl championship, is looking to bring a championship to Dallas. He and Dak Prescott bounced back from McCarthy’s poor first season as the Dallas head coach, but can the Cowboys get back to winning in the playoffs? An 11-plus win season would be helpful to right the postseason woes.

Los Angeles Rams

The defending champion Rams (10.5) are back for more in 2022 after Matthew Stafford officially reached stardom after the 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. Sean McVay finally won a championship after posting an impressive 55-26 record in his first five NFL seasons. So, what will Los Angeles do for an encore? The team will look a little different with Allen Robinson and Bobby Wagner in and Robert Woods and Von Miller out. Can they win 11 games? A tougher schedule may make it difficult, but a healthy 34-year-old Stafford, who signed a contract extension, could get it done.

San Francisco 49ers

Can Kyle Shanahan bring the 49ers (10) back to the Super Bowl? He did so with Jimmy Garoppolo on February 2, 2020, but San Francisco fell short. The 49ers won 10 games last season and won multiple playoff games, but could not get past the eventual champion Rams. San Francisco was strong on both offense and defense and had one of the league’s best dynamic players in Deebo Samuel. It remains to be seen if Garoppolo and Samuel are both 49ers when the season begins, so this win total of 10 can be a gamble.

What is an NFL Win Total Bet?

The season win total is part prop, part future hybrid. The plus and minus values assign odds to either side of the team’s win total line. This bet functions like a total bet. Choose either over or under the sportsbook’s line.

Example Carolina Panthers Season Wins

  • 6 o -110
  • 6 u -110

This win total line is a whole number. That means your bet pushes if the Panthers win exactly 6 games. Your bet will be refunded.

Options:
Risk $110 to win $100 that Carolina wins more than 6 games. A result of 7 or more wins.
Risk $110 to win $100 that Carolina wins less than 6 games. A result of 5 or less wins.
If Carolina wins exactly 6 games, the result pushes or ties the sportsbook’s line. All bets will be refunded.

How to Handicap an NFL Win Total Bet

Handicap a team’s NFL win total using its upcoming schedule, likely starters, and any recently drafted players. Remember, you can bet under the sportsbook’s line if the win total is too high. If you believe a team is likely to win fewer games, bet under a win total line that looks too high.

Avoid betting on your favorite NFL teams or others that you otherwise root for. “Fan bias” is real. It can cloud the judgment of even the most seasoned sports handicappers. Better to research and bet on a team you don’t know much about.

Always consider both sides of a win total line. The line is set by the sportsbook. It may move as betting action piles up on one side more than the other. The team doesn’t have to “win” the exact win total line. Instead, you’re deciding whether their actual number of wins will be more or less than sportsbook’s line.

Finally, be careful when betting whole number lines like 7, 8, or 9. A tie is possible when the sportsbook doesn’t set a .5 half-win line. The good news: you get your bet back if the bet pushes. The bad news: you tie up money in the bet waiting for a result.
