Louisiana legalized sports betting on June 22, 2021, with the two bills – SB 247, “Provides relative to the regulation of sports wagering” and SB 142, “Provides for the disposition of funds generated by sports wagering.” The bill was signed by Governor John Bel Edwards.
Senate President Page Cortez said: “SB 247 fulfills the wishes of the citizens in the 55 parishes that approved the referendum last fall to allow sports wagering, and SB 142 will help direct funding derived from this activity to early childhood education.”
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board now regulates all Louisiana sports betting sites in the Pelican State.
