Bijan Robinson

Bijan Robinson, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2024, finished third in rushing yards with 1,456 last season. The 23-year-old running back, who was drafted No. 8 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, had a huge increase in performance from his 2023 rookie season to his 2024 sophomore season. For this upcoming season, his totals are at 1,150.5 rushing yards and 10.5 rushing touchdowns, and he is very capable of achieving these numbers, especially with Michael Penix Jr. starting the season under center.

What is an NFL Player Prop Bet?

The player prop bet is a side bet placed on an event that isn’t dependent on any particular game’s outcome. In this case, the prop is for each running back’s regular season performance.

Example NFL Running Back Player Prop
Clyde Edwards-Helaire – Total Rushing Touchdowns

  • 4.5 o -115
  • 4.5 u -108

This rushing touchdowns line includes ½ touchdowns. That means no tie bets are possible.

Options:
Risk $115 to win $100 that Clyde Edwards-Helaire scores more than 4.5 touchdown passes. A result of 5 or more wins.
Risk $108 to win $100 that Clyde Edwards-Helaire scores less than 4.5 touchdown passes. A result of 4 or fewer wins.

How to Handicap an NFL Running Back Season Prop Bet

An NFL Running Back’s regular season performance comes down to three factors. Carefully consider the following as you decide how to bet an NFL player prop. Evaluate both sides of the line. Don’t let your initial bias guide your decision.

Avoiding Injury

How likely is the running back to get injured or exacerbate an existing injury? High injury risk decreases the likelihood the running back will go over the sportsbook’s line. While the under might be more expensive and less rewarding in some cases, taking the safer bet is sometimes the better option.

Also, consider the running back’s age, playing style, how often they run the ball, and the ability of their offensive line to protect them. Running backs who are running more are more likely to have a higher injury risk than ones who are utilized less.

Teammate Performance

Running backs can’t gain big yardage or score a lot of touchdowns unless their offensive line is playing well. Review each running back’s offensive line because the back cannot reliably rush the ball without a strong line. Will new recruits improve or impede the line’s ability to protect the running back? Can they create the holes needed for the running back?

Also, consider the injury risk for the linemen. How is the offensive line’s depth for the upcoming season? If a valuable lineman misses a few games, how will that affect the running back’s rushing game?

Team Offense, Offensive Coordinator

Some head coaches and offensive coordinators prefer running the ball more than others. Considering the team’s offensive style and the sportsbook’s line, does the over or under make more sense?

First, determine the team’s most likely offensive style for the upcoming season. Pay close attention to any coaching changes. Also, review last season’s results. Teams that had lackluster performances will likely make changes. Next, decide whether the running back will go over or under the sportsbook’s line.

If the sportsbook’s total rushing yards line is high, take the under if the team mostly passes the ball. However, if the rushing yards line is low, take the over if you believe the team will be rushing the ball more often this season.
