FAQs on the 2024-2025 NFL season
There were 3 shutout games in the 2024-2025 NFL season.
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
- Score – Broncos 38, Chiefs 0
- Date – January 5, 2025 – Week 18
- Chiefs Head Coach – Andy Reid
- Broncos Head Coach – Sean Payton
Andy Reid rested all of his starters in the final game of the regular season on January 5, 2025. At Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, more than 76,000 fans got to see young quarterback Bo Nix and company overpower the reserves for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Denver Broncos won the game, 38-0, behind four passing touchdowns from Nix.
Nix found eight different receivers over the course of the game, and wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. scored twice on five receptions for 51 yards. Courtland Sutton and Devaughn Vele each also scored on touchdown receptions. In terms of running the ball, it was a team approach. There were four different Broncos players with more than 25 yards, and rookie running back Audric Estime scored a rushing touchdown, doubling his career scoring total.
Both the Broncos and Chiefs went to the playoffs, but unfortunately, the Broncos fell, 31-7, to the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the Chiefs received a bye in the AFC and beat the Houston Texans and Bills en route to the Super Bowl. However, Kansas City lost, 40-22, to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
New Orleans Saints at Green Bay Packers
- Score – Packers 34, Saints 0
- Date – December 23, 2024 – Week 16
- Saints Head Coach – Darren Rizzi
- Packers Head Coach – Matt LaFleur
Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers hosted the New Orleans Saints on December 23, 2024, as the Packers were hoping to clinch a playoff berth — and that they did. Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi, who assumed the New Orleans head coaching role beginning in Week 10 of the 2024 season, had a very difficult time against Jordan Love and the very impressive Packers offense.
New Orleans turned the ball over twice while Green Bay did not have a turnover. Also, the Packers were tremendous in the red zone, as they scored touchdowns each of the four times they were in the red zone. Love needed just 182 passing yards to defeat the lowly Saints at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Rushing touchdowns were scored by Josh Jacobs, Emmanuel Wilson, and Chris Brooks. Love threw his touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks.
With the Week 16 victory, the Packers clinched their playoff berth. It was a very successful regular season, as they were a top-10 offense and top-10 defense. Unfortunately, Green Bay fell to Philadelphia, 22-10, in the first round of the playoffs.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Atlanta Falcons
- Score – Jaguars 31, Falcons 0
- Date – August 23, 2024 – Preseason Week 3
- Jaguars Head Coach – Doug Pederson
- Falcons Head Coach – Raheem Morris
Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the last game of the preseason. The Jaguars had won their two previous preseason games — 26-13 against the Kansas City Chiefs and 20-7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jacksonville then went into hostile territory and took down Atlanta, 31-0.
Evan Engram caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to kick off the scoring in the first quarter. Then, Engram caught another touchdown from Lawrence — this time a five-yard touchdown pass — and made the score, 14-0. Then, Mac Jones came in at quarterback and threw a 13-yard touchdown to Elijah Cooks. The halftime score was 21-0 in favor of Jacksonville.
In the second half, there was not much scoring, but the Jaguars still put some more points on the board. Jalen Jackson ran in a one-yard touchdown for the only score of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Jaguars had a 12-play, 58-yard drive that finished with a Cam Little 40-yard field goal to make the score, 31-0.

Betting on a Shutout Game
There are a few different ways to bet on a shutout NFL football game, both directly and indirectly. The following are the most common. Be sure to review your sportsbook’s current betting odds in advance of placing any wager, particularly riskier prop and parlay bets.
To Win to 0 Prop Bet
Bet whether one side will win the game to zero, also known as a shutout win. Some sports betting sites also offer this bet for the first half and second half. In most cases, a shutout victory will have a positive odds value indicating a less likely outcome. The exception would be a game between two mismatched opponents. In this case, the stronger opponent’s line for a shutout victory may have a negative value.
Note: This prop will not be available for games when it’s highly likely both teams will score at least once.
Team Point Total Prop Bet
Decide whether a team’s final point total will be over or under the sportsbook’s line.
- First, identify the team likely to score 0 points.
- Second, bet “Under” whatever line the sportsbook has assigned.
The under will have a high minus odds value if a shutout is in play. Compare odds across multiple sportsbooks to make sure you’re getting the best value. Also, wait until the last minute to place this bet: betting action in the minutes leading up to kickoff may suggest whether or not a shutout could be a realistic outcome.
First to 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 Points Prop Bets
A team likely to shutout their opponent will also be likely to reach various point total milestones throughout the game.
- First, choose the team likely to shutout their opponent.
- Second, review the lines and odds for the First to Score X points prop bets, usually ranging from 15-40 points in 5 point increments.
- Third, identify a point total that offers the best betting value.
For example, the first team to score 15 points will be obvious and come with a high minus odds value, making it an expensive wager. Instead of taking this bet, consider taking a higher point total that will offer better value.
Pick a number a team will comfortably achieve, but not so high that they’ll need to have an exceptional game. This bet will offer a much better return on investment compared to a smaller point value.
Shutout Game Parlay Bets
Combine any of the above bets into a 2-3 selection parlay bet. Note that some sportsbooks may limit the number and type of prop bets that you can parlay. Take care with same-game parlays: these tend to have more restrictions compared to a standard “off the board” parlay bet.
Here’s an example shutout game 3-selection parlay for the Buffalo Bills:
- Buffalo to win to 0 prop bet
- Buffalo team point total over 30
- Buffalo first to 20 points
Finally, be careful parlaying 4 or more prop bet selections, as it will quickly become a very risky wager. Buffalo’s opponent would only need to score once to make this example a losing bet.
Handicapping Strategy
It’s best to bet on a shutout when it’s not the obvious outcome, but not a complete long-shot either. As with most things sports betting, the likely result will come loaded with juice, often requiring a big upfront investment in exchange for a nominal payout.
Instead, try to identify games where the probability of a shutout is in the 50-75% range. Placing appropriate wagers on these games will offer you a good return on your money at a moderate amount of risk.
