The Belmont Stakes is this Saturday. With 13 horses probable as of writing, I advise wheeling a superfecta bet to allow some margin of error. After all, we did see long shot Cloud Computing win the Preakness, busting many superfectas with high reliance on the favorites. Here is my Superfecta Pick for the 2017 Belmont Stakes.

What is a Superfecta Wheel?
Superfecta Part Wheel Bet: Select horses to key into each position: first, second, third and fourth. Final order does matter depending on how you key each horse.
As of writing the Belmont field is 13 horses. That’s 3 more than the Preakness but much less than the Derby’s 20. That means we don’t have to key as many horses into each position. Instead, focus on the most probable top finishers.
Both Always Dreaming (Kentucky Derby Winner) and Cloud Computing (Preakness Winner) will be enjoying hay and water when the Belmont begins. They’re opting out to be fresh for other summer racing opportunities. This spells great opportunities for Irish War Cry and Looking at Lee to win a 2017 Triple Crown event. While Epicharis has yet to win a Graded Stakes on USA soil, he’s been racing well recently with great performances at the Tokyo Hyacinth Stakes and UAE Derby.
Efficiency Matters
Superfecta Part Wheels are harder to win because you must select and key horses correctly. Superfecta part wheels are more efficient than a Superfecta box. You will risk less bankroll to potentially win more money.
Suppose We Box our 6 Horses?
A 6 horse Superfecta box costs $360! That’s a big risk compared to our $33 part wheel. Sure the box bet is more flexible: order doesn’t matter and any of the 6 must finish in the top 4. But if it fails, you’re out a month’s groceries for the average American adult.
The $33 6 horse part wheel is more economical. You’re risking less money for better value, just like the Ronco food dehydrator. 🙂
Belmont Stakes 2017 Superfecta Betting Advice
I recommend a 6 horse Superfecta Part Wheel, keying 3 horses in positions 1-3, then 4 in fourth position. Here’s why:
A 6 horse Superfecta Part Wheel using my recommendation is only $33, $1 per combination. With only 13 or so horses scheduled to run, it’s a cheap date at Belmont Park this weekend.
Let’s look at the latest Belmont Stakes Odds to Win:
Let’s assemble our Superfecta Part Wheel keys from this table. Looking at Lee, Epicharis and Irish War Cry comprise the first key. These 3 horses have been solid all season. I substitute Meantime for Irish War Cry in the second key with Epicharis and Lookin at Lee. The third key features Lookin at Lee, Meantime and Tapwrit. I didn’t bother to include Epicharis because he’s either going to be top 2 or not a significant factor at Belmont. The fourth key reprises Irish War Cry, Epicharis and Tapwrit, plus Senior Investment for good luck. Senior Investment is a serious contender but not likely to win.
For what it’s worth, I struggled with adding Epicharis to keys 1, 2 and 4. Gormley, Twisted Tom or Patch could easily be substituted for Epicharis in the 3rd or 4th keys. But that might cost you more at the ticket window.
