Point Spread
With a point spread bet, the bettor makes a wager based on the score difference set by the sportsbook. BetMGM has lines for game, half, quarter, or periods depending on the sport.
Consider a college basketball matchup. A team favored by 3.5 points would need to win by 4 or more to cover. Anything less, or an outright loss, would result in a losing wager. The underdog wins if they lose by 3 or fewer points, or win the game outright.
Total
The total bet is presented in an “over-under” fashion. Bettors wager on whether the final total will be over or under BetMGM sportsbook’s line.
Moneyline
The moneyline wager is straightforward in that the bettor chooses an outright winner. The odds
determine risk and win amounts. BetMGM displays moneyline odds alongside a game’s spread and total lines.
The favorite will have a minus value. Winning favorite bets payout less than the original risk amount. Betting on the underdog is different. Winning underdog bets pay more than what was risked, unless the odds were +100 or EV. +100 bets pay even money.
Parlays
A parlay involves making several selections on one betting ticket. In order for the bet to win, each selection or “leg” must be correct. In the event that one leg loses, the entire parlay would lose. BetMGM Sportsbook parlays can include moneyline, spread, and total wagers, in addition to props from games across various leagues.
Teasers
A teaser is a parlay variation. With teasers, bettors can “buy” points to shift spread and total lines in their favor. There are two notable differences. One is that teaser payouts are much lower than traditional parlays. The other is that teasers are limited to the NFL and NBA. That said, there can be exceptions.
Futures
BetMGM has futures odds for major US sports leagues and international sports like golf, tennis, and soccer. A future bet can be placed at any point in the season so long as it is prior to league award, final standing, playoff, or championship.
To win a futures bet, the bettor must choose a player or team to win in advance of the event. In general, the earlier the bet is placed, the higher the payout will be. However picking winners can be difficult even well into a season.
Props
A prop bet allows bettors to wager on outcomes that are not directly related to a game’s final result. Bet whether a player’s stat will be over or under BetMGM’s line. Examples include hits, points, tackles, goals, rebounds or assists in a particular game. There are also props that have nothing to do with gameplay, like the result of the Super Bowl coin toss.
