You save money because your third horse is excluded from the first key. Also, your fourth horse is excluded from both the first and second keys. Why pay for these horses if they’re not likely to win?

Now let’s pick one more horse for the first key. Also add this horse to your 2nd and 3rd keys.
Mo Donegal won the G2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Park on April 9, 2022. His last race was the Kentucky Derby, where he finished 5th. Before that, he was 3rd at the Holy Bull Stakes and won the Remsen Stakes in December 2021.
Next, we’ll add a third horse to our 2nd key. Also put this horse in the 3rd key.
Creative Minister last raced at the Preakness Stakes, where he finished 3rd. Both that he won Allowance and Maiden Special Weight races at Chuchill Downs and Keeneland, respectively.
Finally we’ll add a 4th and final horse to our 3rd key.
Nest has won two graded stakes races in 2022. His first victory was at Tampa Bay Down’s Suncoast Stakes on February 12, 2022. Then on April 8, 2022, he won the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland.

How to Make this Bet
There are 3 ways to bet trifectas. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The simplest is a straight trifecta. It’s also difficult to win. You can only pick 3 horses. These horses must finish in the exact order you specified.
Trifecta Boxes and Wheels are two alternatives. You can add more than 3 horses to either bet. This increases the likelihood of winning in exchange for a higher bet cost.

- Straight Trifecta Bet – Pick 3 horses to finish in the top 3 positions. Final order matters.
- Trifecta Box Bet – Pick any number of horses to finish in the top 3 positions. Final order does not matter.
- Trifecta Part Wheel Bet – Select horses to key into each position: first, second and third. Final order does matter depending on how you key each horse.
Efficiency Increases Value
Trifecta Boxes are more likely to win because final order does not matter. A box is less efficient than a wheel because you end up buying more combinations than you need.
Trifecta Part Wheels are harder to win because you must select and key horses correctly. However a part wheel is more efficient than a box. You will invest less bankroll to potentially win more money.
