FAQs on the 2024-2025 College Football season

How many games with a final total >= 90 points were there in the 2024-2025 College Football season?

There were 31 games with a final total >= 90 points in the 2024-2025 College Football season.

James Madison at North Carolina

  • Score – 70-50, James Madison
  • Date – September 21, 2024 – Week 4
  • James Madison Head Coach – Bob Chesney
  • North Carolina Head Coach – Mack Brown

On September 21, 2024, it was a crazy day at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The James Madison Dukes entered the game 2-0 and had scored a combined 33 points in their first two games of the season. They were going into hostile territory as more than a touchdown underdog against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

To start the afternoon contest, James Madison had a successful first drive. Kicker Noe Ruelas made a 50-yard field goal to kick off the scoring. Then, on just the second drive by North Carolina, the Tar Heel punt was blocked. James Madison’s Jayden Mines ran back the blocked punt 14 yards into the end zone. A tricky two-point conversion made the score 11-0.

UNC would grab the lead at 14-11, but that would be the Tar Heels’ only lead of the game. James Madison put up a whopping 53 points in the first half and then cruised in the second half to the 70-50 victory. James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more. The five passing touchdowns each went to different receivers. He had 388 passing yards and 99 rushing yards.

TCU at SMU

  • Score – 66-42, SMU
  • Date – September 21, 2024 – Week 4
  • TCU Head Coach – Sonny Dykes
  • SMU Head Coach – Rhett Lashlee

Both TCU and SMU entered the contest in Dallas, Texas with 2-1 records. The early evening game, also on September 21, 2024, was played at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The SMU Mustangs gave more than 33,000 fans something to cheer about as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead to finish the first quarter.

The TCU Horned Frogs battled back with 21 points in the second quarter, but SMU kept the offensive and defensive success going to finish the half. After the score became 24-21 in favor of SMU, the Mustangs threw for a touchdown, had an interception return for a touchdown, and a field goal. At halftime, the score was 41-21, Mustangs.

Then in the second half, SMU was able to keep the double-digit lead and even cushioned the lead near the end of the third quarter. Brashard Smith ended with three rushing touchdowns to go with 127 rushing yards. He also caught a touchdown. TCU coach Sonny Dykes was ejected after two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State

  • Score – 56-48, Texas Tech
  • Date – November 23, 2024 – Week 13
  • Texas Tech Head Coach – Joey McGuire
  • Oklahoma State Head Coach – Mike Gundy

On Senior Day for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, they hosted Texas Tech at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In front of more than 52,000 fans, the Cowboys were looking to put on a show. They and the Texas Tech Raiders played a very entertaining contest on November 23, 2024.

For the Cowboys, senior wide receiver Rashod Owens celebrated his Senior Day with a game-high 124 receiving yards and a touchdown. Junior running back Ollie Gordon II rushed for three touchdowns and had a season-high 156 yards on the ground.

However, the Red Raiders had a bigger offensive day. Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton threw for 401 yards and four touchdowns, including the first two scores of the game. Running back Tahj Brooks also ran for 133 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, the Red Raiders moved to 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Big 12.

Betting on a High-Scoring Game

There are a few ways to bet on a high-scoring game. Most involve betting on point totals related to the anticipated final score. Don’t forget to review alternate point totals, too, as these may present better value if you’re confident about the final result.

Game Point Total

Decide whether the final game point total will be over or under the sportsbook’s line.

If you think it will be a high-scoring game, consider betting over the sportsbook’s total line. In this case, the over will likely have minus odds, indicating that you’ll risk more than you’ll win. That’s because the potential for a high-scoring game means most bettors will be taking the over, hence the reason it becomes the favorite outcome.

As a result, betting the over for a high-scoring game means you’re placing a conservative wager with a low-risk, low-reward setup.

Alternate Game Point Total

Like the standard game point total bet, except you can bet over or under an alternate point total line. Here’s where you can take on more risk for a potentially higher payout. Sports betting sites commonly offer alternate point totals in half or full-point increments above and below the main (or balanced) line. Consider the following example:

Miami (FL) vs Clemson Example

  • Main Point Total – 64.5 o -115/u -105
Risk $115 to win $100 that the final point total will be over 64.5 points. The over is more expensive than the under because most bettors are anticipating a final total over 64.5 points.
  • Alternate Point Total #1 – 68.5 o -105/u -115
Risk $105 to win $100 that the final point total will be over 68.5 points. Here, one or both teams will need to score more points in order for the over to pay. Since this is less certain, over bettors only have to risk $105 to win $100 compared to the main line where they risk $115 to win $100.
  • Alternate Point Total #2 – 72.5 o +125/u -145
Risk $100 to win $125 that the final point total will be over 72.5 points. As with the alternate total above, one or both teams will need to score more points in order for the over to pay. The +125 odds suggest that a final total over 72.5 is not likely, which is why over bettors will be paid $125 for every $100 they risk.

However, should the final total be 73 or higher, over bettors will be handsomely rewarded. While somewhat risky, taking this line offers a better return on investment.

Team Point Total

Decide whether a team’s final point total will be over or under the sportsbook’s team point total line.

Once you’re confident the game will be high-scoring, you’ll need to determine each team’s contribution to the final result. Will one team overpower the other? Or, will it be a back and forth that goes down to the wire?

First, try to estimate each team’s point production for the matchup. Next, compare your figures to the the sportsbook’s lines for each team. If one of the lines seems unexpectedly low, bet over. If one of the lines is too high, then bet under.

Finally, note that adding each team’s point total line together should equal or approximate the game’s balanced total line. If there’s a discrepancy, capitalize on it right away.

First to 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45

A potentially high-scoring game means each team will likely pass various point total milestones throughout the game.

  • First, estimate what the final point total will be.
  • Second, determine each team’s contribution to that total.
  • Third, select the team most likely to reach a particular milestone first. Be careful not to choose a value that’s too high, or else you’ll risk losing your bet. Also, a value that’s too low means you’ll risking more money than you’ll win.

Pick a number a team will comfortably achieve, but not so high that they’ll need to make an extraordinary effort. This bet will offer a much better return on investment compared to a smaller point value.

A high-scoring game means it’s likely a team will hit the upper values late in the game (30, 35, 40, 45, even 50). You’ll need to be comfortable hanging on until the final whistle.
